Joel Embiid is the first player in NBA history with

50 PTS
10 REB
5 AST
5 BLK

in a game.

My reaction:  Wilt scored at least 50pts 118 times.   Wonder how many times he would have put up that stat line if blocks had been tracked.

Embiid, 24 FTA out of a team total of 26.  Wow.  Too much for Markkanen and Olynyk to handle I guess.

Utah was 13-23 from the FT line.  Fundamentals.  Markkanen was 1-4 and Sexton was 1-5.  That is the game right there.

I wonder how many times Embiid would have scored 50 if he played in Wilt’s era.  A lot more than today I’d bet.

In Wilt's era, Embiid never would have recovered from his various injuries, and probably never would have played in the United States. ;)

Plus, I don't think Embiid could have run up and down the floor at the pace they played in back then.

In the Wilt's 50 ppg season alone he had at least 50 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists in 6 games.  Given what we know about Wilt's game, I think it pretty safe to assume he had at least 5 blocks in all 6 of those games and frankly if they counted assists back then like they do today, he'd probably have picked up a couple of more games.  And that was just 1 season.

I don't know about that, there were tougher centers back then, Embrid scored his 50 against Vanderbuilt and Olynik. Embrid would be going up against the likes of Russell, Jabbar, Ballamy, Reed, Chamberlain, Cowens, Unseld.

Nate Thurmond, Artis Gilmore, Mark Eaton......a center-centric era.

Definitely more by Wilt, for sure.   Did Embiid play well past the third quarter that is first, lol

let's not forget the lack of a 3-point shot back in Wilt's day.  while that only accounted for 1 of Embiid's shots in this game, Wilt had to get his buckets 2 points at a time.

also, Embiid would be unlikely to see 24 FT attempts in a game against the centers back in those days.  much more physical game that would knock his fragile butt to the ground quite a bit

If Wilt had the 3pt line, it is not so much that he would have shot 3's, more it would have been about spacing.  I think you could play zone back then too.  It is always hard to compare eras but what Wilt did stands the test of time in any era.

Embiid is a great player also, just not quite Wilt Chamberlain great.

Keegan Murray started the season off with bang averaging around 20ppg (edit: 18.8ppg) for first 4 contests. Now he is down to 12.7ppg for 11 games. Big drop off for last 7 games (edit: 9.3ppg) vs first 4 games.

More concerning - only 3.7rpg in 32mpg. That is barely above 1 rebound every 10 minutes. That is numbers you would expect from a PG. Not an athletic 6-8 forward. Secondly a negative turnover ratio of 1.2apg to 1.7tpg.  Another puzzler. Less than 1 FT per game (0.8 FTA) against 10.5 FGAs per game. That is a FT rate of under 10%. That would be one of the worst in the league.

Still his TS% is pretty good at 58.4% because he is shooting the three well (38.6%) and at high volume with almost two thirds of his attempts coming from three (6.4 per game).

Let's also not discount that there was significantly less room in the paint to work in during Wilts time. Defends generally packed the paint back then and weren't spaced out to 20-23 feet away from the basket. Wilt, Russell and those guys were regularly trying to get their shots off with multiple players crowding then in the paint.

Embiid would need to try to get his patented "get the ball 12-14 feet from the basket and dribble into the paint" post moves off with three defenders and two of his own teammates in the paint area back in the 60's and 70's. Could he do that? I doubt it in a way more physical league.

Beyond he obvious Fournier flub, I think Giannis forgot to mention that his list for the Americans was from 2018 🙄

You can say maybe two of those Americans are our current top 5 in Curry and KD, but the rest are nonsense right now. I’d go:

PG: Curry
SG: Booker (Mitchell/Brown/PG also can be argued here)
SF: Tatum
PF: Durant
C: KAT (if they can do both Jokic and Embiid I can have KAT as a 5)

They definitely have a size advantage, but they have no chance of guarding this group who would shoot them out of the building.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.
