CP3 getting 30mpg but only averaging 9.5ppg. That is shocking. He is doing the business in handing out assists with about as many dimes as points with 9.4apg but under 10ppg is shocking for CP3.

Ayton is only getting 26.6mpg as Monty keeps reducing his court time. Ayton 14.5ppg 7.4rpg. That looks like a problem that is going to get larger in the near future.

His shooting has been really bad. 36% from the field, 30% from the field…Teams were also starting to pick on him during the post season. I think the Suns should consider trading him and Crowder to the Lakers for Westbrook and a 1st rounder  to get out of that awful CP3 contract.

Why would LA do that? Westbrook has been better than CP3 this season

Lakers are 2-10 and Russ not fitting in has a lot to do with that. I think it would be a good move for both teams.

He has been very, very good since coming off the bench. 19/8/5 on 47/46/81 shooting. Russ is not the problem.

LeBron has taken a significant step back in terms of offensive efficiency (least efficient I've ever seen him), and they have no bench nor shooting.

Lebron is a complete one way player at this point. He has the worst on off since his rookie year and the lakers are barely better with him on the court (which is extra crazy when you realize he is being replaced by a lousy player whenever he goes out of the game. Do people really envision them turning this around? I mean they are 2-10 with Anthony Davis being extremely healthy (and Lebron only missed one game when they were 2-9 I believe). I get they don’t own their pick but why should they thrown around picks to try and win 37 games?.

He seems to have completely thrown in the towel, which is funny because this is 100% his team, made in his image. Although, I do think Pelinka has done a terrible job.

Yeah Lebron is no Tom Brady. Let's not let AD off the hook though. He's fully healthy and clearly not the dominating player the Lakers thought they were getting to lead them through Lebron's decline when they mortgaged their future by trading all their prospects and picks for him.


I remember how disappointed lots of us were when the Celtics didn't manage to trade away Brown, Smart and more for AD. We probably would have done it too if it wasn't for AD and his dad refusing to re-sign with the Celtics if he had come here. I'm so glad it didn't happen looking back now.

AD is a weird one. He is by far LA's best defensive player, and is still a walking double-double. He is just not capable of being that 28/11 MVP candidate guy anymore.

Markannen is playing well, but Clarkson is also averaging 19/5/5 on that team. Markannen isn't dominating as needed to be in the conversation. It is Giannis, Luka and Tatum for my mind.

Small sample size and I expect those shooting averages to go down to what his career averages are which isn’t very good. Just wait a few games. Paying $48M a year to a bench player that doesn’t fit in with AD and Lebron absolutely is a problem. CP3 and Crowder can both shoot, which is what LA needs. Russ being surrounded by shooters like he would be on a team like Phoenix is what he needs.

Chris Paul has shot 0.2% better from 3 over the last two seasons than Westbrook. It is not going to solve their issues.

Neither is Crowder, who has two seasons in his entire career shooting above 35% from deep.

Crowder and Paul are much better 3pt shooters over their careers. They can spread the floor, which Russ can’t. Lakers would be a better team after making that swap.

Chris Paul with his 16 and 9, two years ago finished 5th in MVP voting.  Plenty of other players with statlines similar to Markkanen have finished in the top 10 very recently.  Heck, Giannis before his rise finished 7th in MVP voting with 23/9/5 on a team that won just 42 games.  John Wall, Kyle Lowry, and even Draymond have all finished in the top 10 and in some cases multiple times.  Or a few years back now, when Joakim Noah finished 4th averaging a whopping 12.6 ppg.  He added in 11.3 rpg and 5.4 apg and of course was playing DPOY level defense, but the Bulls were only a 48 win team that year. 

The MVP is not, and never has been, a best player award.  It is about value and in sports value is measured by the scoreboard.  If Jazz continue to win at anywhere near this level, then Markkanen will absolutely get MVP votes.

True, but guys like Derrick Rose can win the award while being inefficient with stats in the same general range as Markkanen because their teams are very good (and unexpectedly so). 

Team success is absolutely a factor in the MVP.
