He looks to be the real deal.  He's shooting lights out.  Has decent size at 6'8 and his confidence is getting stronger with every game and his teammates are trusting him to nail that three point shot.

The Celtics have always needed another good shooter to space the floor.  I feel like he could play that Evan Fournier role.

So what do you guys think?  Is Sam Hauser legit or you think he's not going to be a serious contributor this season?

I think he's looking good. Want to point out that he's 6'6" no shoes. So NBA 6'7" let's call it. I like what I'm seeing.

I’ve been talking him up all off-season.  He’s why the Celtics didn’t flinch when Gallo went down.  The signs have been there all summer that he’s the real deal, and the pre-season has confirmed he will be able to be a very useful player for us this year.

It seems to me I've heard that song before
It's from an old familiar score
"...unceasingly we are bombarded with pseudo-realities manufactured by very sophisticated people using very sophisticated electronic mechanisms. I do not distrust their motives; I distrust their power. They have a lot of it."

This was from 2021 I believe:

Quote
Notes: Measured 6’6.75” barefoot, 6’8.0” in shoes 8’6.0” standing reach, 217.4 lbs, and 6’9.25” wingspan at the 2021 NBA Draft Combine …

He is listed as 6'-8".  Maybe 6'-7" is more accurate.  He is 24.  He is pretty much a one trick pony.  But that one trick is a pretty useful NBA trick (3-point shooting).  It seems he will see some useful minutes this season as 11th or 12th in the rotation.  Not sure how much talking up that warrants.  I am impressed with his improvement.

He is our primary back up SF.  That may be a lot to ask.  I think the shooting is real though.  Not just a fluke.

I'm missing the Evan Fournier role comparison. In a perfect world, Hauser will be our version of Duncan Robinson.

I've been talking Hauser up since last year. I thought we needed his shooting on the floor at times when we can't hit a shot. I'm hoping guys like Brogdon, Pritchard, Griffin and Hauser can come in and give us some offense when we sputter this year.

I agree with this. Think he could be a bit better on defense than Robinson; so instead of a “3 and No D”, Hauser could be a “3 and slight D” player.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Hauser has a good BBIQ but his body isn't as quick as his mind. He can be an average defender with some work. Robinson will always be really bad on defense.

I like Hauser, don't get me wrong, love the improvement.  But there are still limitations that are going to get exploited in real NBA games.  His spot up shooting from 3 is a legit NBA weapon.  No doubt.  But he does not move well without the ball and currently does not shoot off the curl or off the dribble.  Those skills may come but right now, they aren't there.  As for his defense, I am just not sure, haven't seen enough.

Duncan Robinson is an obvious comp to consider.  Robinson does shoot pretty well off the curl or even off the dribble.  I see Robinson as more complete as a shooter/scorer.  Hauser may be a better defender (not saying much).  Not sure Hauser is ever a starter.  Robinson has started around 70 games each of the last 3 seasons but then didn't play in the playoffs.

All in all, very happy to see Hauser on the roster.  There is definitely still some upside there.  We'll see how much.

if he gets minutes with Tatum and Brown on the floor, his shooting from the corner should open up the floor for the J's to drive and kick out if needed.  D hasn't looked bad so far.  a lineup of Al, Tatum, Hauser, Brown and Brogdon would cause a lot of issues for other teams to cover.

Because I am set in my ways, how does this guy compare to, say, Ryan Anderson?

Yikes. If Hauser turns into Ryan Anderson, the Celtics will have a pretty amazing long term piece. Anderson had a 4-5 year span where he was one of the better "stretch 4s" in the league. He averaged 19.8 PPG one season.

Physically, Anderson was thicker, slower and taller, though maybe not as long. Anderson was also a better rebounder and pick setter. It will be seen who is the better shooter. I think Hauser will have to be the better shooter if he is to gain the type of playing time that Anderson earned a decade ago.
