Sucks. But I can't help but wonder, is the ACL injury on top of the meniscus tear or in place of it due to misdiagnosing the injury?

I read that sometimes swelling can hide proper diagnosis from early MRI.

I just keep coming back to wasting the TPE for no reason other than being cheap.  The team had the room to acquire someone.  It was a mistake then, but looks so much worse now.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Actually feel Cousins might fit out needs better now. A big that can score a bit. Does anyone know if Gall is out the entire season does his salary count against the cap

Yes, it counts against the cap.

We can apply for a Disabled Player Exception, with which we can sign a guy to a 1 year deal, or trade for an expiring contract, worth up to half of Gallo's salary.

The team may be able to collect insurance on Gallo, but that doesn't off-set salary cap / luxury tax.

The only way his contract comes off the books is if this is a career-ender.  Then, there's a process everybody would have to go through.

TP Roy, this answers the very question I had.

Could be a unpopular opinion but I feel if a player gets hurt playing in another league it should allow grounds for a team to void their contract if they so wish to.

True .

Whelp….That’s probably the Waterloo for his career .

I held my breath every time he was on the court for the Hawks .  Always liked the guy , but never wanted him on the team before because of the injury jinx he carries with him.  I’m not surprised but sad for him.

How about Jae Crowder?

Crowder is making over $10 million.  There's easy way to match salaries for him.

Melo may come here just a chance for a title shot unless Lakers or Heat want him..love have either Whiteside or Cousins to back up TimeLord..we need vets on the bench, look what happen last season
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Really unfortunate.  I'll be honest:  I thought Gallo's declining offense and inability to defend might push him out of the everyday rotation by midseason anyway.  But it's always nice to have a guy on the bench who can come in and contribute when needed, and in that respect it's a steep drop from Gallo to the Hauser, Kornet, Caboclo tier of guys.

Have to imagine that this puts Danilo's career in doubt.  He's 34 and was already beginning to decline a bit before this injury.  I bet the front office would love to have that big TPE back now, but unfortunately nobody has a crystal ball and that's just not how the timing worked out for us.

I've been on the Cousins train from the start.  I'd like to bring him in for depth if he's okay with not necessarily playing every night.  And now with this, I'd add Melo to that list.  I don't expect either of those guys to be in the regular rotation, but we have guys who will miss games this season and it's nice to have experienced NBA players around to plug the gaps.

Can Celtics get a medical hardship or whatever NBA calls it when a player is out before season starts?

If he's expected to miss the whole season then yes, but the amount is only 50% of the guy's salary iirc.  So it would work out to $3M, which probably won't help us much.

This is why that TPE should’ve absolutely been utilized, Even just to absorb an expiring. Give yourself options and to prepare for worst case scenarios

This is what happens when you have a cheap ownership. This isn’t bad luck, this is absolutely garbage ownership.

Sucks. Really need to get Melo now. Would be further better leadership, and it’d be cool for him to finally get a ring with Boston.

I'd take Melo for his scoring and rebounding, but this is the first time I've heard "better leadership" used to describe him. Unless maybe he's matured in recent years?

By the way, any guesses as to when Brogdon goes down to injury and thus completely ruins what had been a pretty good offseason?

We still have a 6.9M and a 5.9M TPE we can use. For worst case scenarios.
