I’m wondering if galinari may end up retiring.

I always get confused with the retirements.  I'm not sure if there's a way for him to officially retire and still get paid on next year's player option.

He sounds like he doesn’t want to be ruled out of the playoffs yet, so if he retires it wouldn’t be this season.

No. He signed a contract to play basketball.

That’s not how it works in the NBA.  Contracts are guaranteed against injury.  If Gallo decides that he can’t continue playing next year, he’ll get paid.

Needs to sign Melo. They need a proven scorer to back up the 4. Sam Hauser isn’t the answer.

As a Syracuse grad, I have mixed feelings.  On one hand, I have to acknowledge that he's done very little the past few years to help his teams win.  Obviously, his teams' performance in the playoffs has been a huge disappointment.

But I also think he can be an asset.  He's willing and able to take the big shot when called upon.  I also believe that if we had him last year, he would have killed Miami's comeback.  If he joins us, my hope is that either in the finals or conference finals, he steps up with a great performance that wins us a key game.  Kind of a Willis Reed moment - yes I know Reed only scored 4 points in that game, but he's famous for showing up when needed.

Quote from: Mark Murphy speculation
"I think they feel they want to find out what they've got. They're not in a hurry," Murphy said of the Celtics. "If there's a trade out there, why not? But I don't think they're at all interested in Carmelo, for example."

Murphy noted the Celtics also didn't show interest in Montrezl Harrell, the 28-year-old power forward who reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers this week. But why the wariness to bring in a player like Anthony, who averaged 13.3 points per game off the bench for the Los Angeles Lakers last season?

"I think what it comes down to is, they don't want to sacrifice their defensive principles," Murphy said. "You have to be able to defend. I'm not sure what it would look like the first time 'Melo had to switch onto a point guard."

While he’s probably correct, why sign Gallo if we’re only looking at good defenders?

I could see what Mark is saying with the timing. We had to sign Gallo immediately because he was heavily sought after. Seems like there is little to no rush to sign any of the open free agents (including Melo) or trade for any of the fringe TPE guys like Rudy Gay.

There's an argument that it's worth taking a look at how the new rotation gels and deciding on your next move from there. Maybe White starts feeling expendable by midseason and it opens up the opportunity to trade for an impact wing like Bojan Bogdanovic. Maybe the rotation is set and a Rudy Gay trade makes more sense to shore up the wing spot.

I am not sure that the FO feels the need to replace Gallo before the start of the season.

I am pretty happy we didn’t get Harrell. He doesn’t really play defense and would not be surprised to see him whine in Philly about his minutes. 4 teams in a year + usually not a good sign.

Brogdan isn’t the final piece

Does he help, yes, but to say Boston has upgraded there bench depth to win a championship is ridiculous

They still need a legit Shooter and a 5

I would be open to trading and signing for more depth

To think this Team is going to play in a championship series again as constituted is delusional

Yeah, why would a team that added pieces and kept the rest of there young team intact go as far as they did last year? That would be quite a leap... ::)

Lol. Maybe its just me, but the pre-season Vegas title favorites seem like a good bet to play in the championship again. It also helps they played in the championship last year.

Folks have to remember the Celtics benefited from Middleton sitting out in the Bucks series last season. As such, the C's should/need to treat it as they've lost in the East Semis.
