Chalk this up to almost certainly baseless speculation but Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson tweeted out the following.

Carmelo Anthony has been considered a potential signee by the Boston Celtics in recent days following Danilo Gallinari's suffered torn meniscus in his left knee on Saturday, I'm told.

Knicks are still believed to have interest in the former Laker, Thunder, Blazer, Rocket.

Several members around here have speculated that Anthony would be the ideal choice to replace Danilo Gallinari until he is ready to return but would Melo even be interested in a temporary situation like that? Is there anyone else that could be an option to fill in for Gallo or should Stevens just hold fast and wait for the DG to recover?

Think I'm in favor of not signing anyone unless Joe Johnson wants to take one more crack at it.

I'd take Carmello. He can spread the floor and he can still post. As a bench big forward I'd take him if he wanted to come here.

I don't believe Scoop B has any insight whatsoever into the thinking of the Celtics' front-office.

At this point, though, I'd be fine with Carmelo on a minimum contract.  He was pretty good in Portland.

I mean, Brogdon/one of the Jays/Carmelo/Grant/Gallo is a pretty overqualified bench group against most other bench groups. Depends on what Carmelo's expecting in terms of a role though.

He was on the Lakers last season, right?  He played well (or at least put up respectable numbers) in about 26 min/game.  Not sure why the the Lakers wouldn't still be able to use him.  This seems to me like a leak to try and make it seem like someone else is interested so that the Lakers will actually sign him.  It could be true, it would make sense for the Celtics to have interest, but it seems unlikely to me he would end up in Boston.

A min salary for him is $2,905,851.  That is not a small number even for someone who has made as much as him ($262,523,093 in 19 seasons if you are interested).

I have always thought, that when motivated, he's a pretty good one-on-one defender.

He didn't show that with the Nuggets or Knicks, but during the Olympics he was our best player at times, and his defense was outstanding.

Perhaps in a limited minutes role he would put forth that same effort with the Celtics.

Now I'm not sure how he'd be as an off-ball defender, or playing within the Celtics' switching system.  But there's hope he'd adapt well.

Most folks look at him for his offense, but don't discount his defense.

He had some quotes at his end of season talks that indicated he didn’t really want to be with the Lakers more than the other way around. That team had really bad chemistry last season.

If he can play SF at all, he'd be fine as the 3rd SF and temporary Gallo replacement at the 4.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I think Carmello is a 4 at this point...

plus some lux tax, right? and he'll end up riding the pine when Gallo comes back. This discussion is just silly.

Mike Gorman has made it clear often that he's not a fan of Melo. I wonder what he would think about the C's singing him.

Yeah there's no way at his age that he is asked to go out there and guard SFs. If anything I can see him asked to play the 5 for short minutes in small ball lineups. Melo is an underrated rebounder.

Not sure about that, Gallo on one bum wheel may be more of a stretch 5 than anything else. It is true that there are likely teams with a bigger role for him.
