What did Grant say?
The Celtics were the better team, the Warriors were the more disciplined team.
How did we get from that to Grant has a single person in mind? I mean, Grant's not wrong. It was the whole team, though.
Yeah, I think people are reading way too much into this. The Warriors executed their schemes better than we executed our schemes. If you want to call that being more disciplined, OK. I think that is what Grant meant though. The Warriors have had the same coach and the same core players for what, 8 seasons, including several long playoff runs. The Celtics had a new coach and really just a season or two with the core players in their current roles. The Warriors executed better because they have had 8 years to work on it. And because they handled the pressure better. And because they have some really good players who made big plays.
The Celtics' execution did fray around the edges some in the finals while the Warriors' execution remained tight. It was a really big moment for the Celtics' young players. The Warriors were better prepared to handle it for a number of reasons.
The Celtics added two really good players to the mix this off season. We can build on our execution and discipline with the same coach and the same core players. We are picking up where we left off this season, not more or less starting over. Our young stars will have matured and we added veteran depth. If the coach and the players understand what they need to focus on (execution), I am sure things will improve and they will be far better prepared for the pressure and intensity of the finals this season.
