Well, Melo is sold on him.

Carmelo Anthony: Ace Bailey? we?ve seen Ace before. That?s why it?s not talked about like that. We?ve seen Ace. We?ve seen Paul Georgee. We?ve seen Kevin Garnett. We?ve seen Tracy McGrady. We?ve seen Mellos. We?ve seen Jayson Tatum. Like, we?ve seen Ace. That?s why he?s not being talked about. That doesn?t take anything away from him, but visually we?ve seen him, right? We haven?t seen and not to make this black and white but we haven?t seen a white boy like that in a long f?? time. Right. That?s when you know he really good. That?s when you know Cooper Flagg really good.
More specifically a really good white American player.  There's been top tier white foreign players but who has been the best white American player since Bird?

Probably Stockton? After him though is it Kevin Love? That does feel wild.

I was meaning after Bird retired in 1992.  If Kevin Love is the best there is in 33 years that's nuts but I can't think of anyone better.  Really nuts when there has been Nash, Dirk, Ginobli, Jokic and Luka from the foreign side.  Then you could start the bench with the Gasol brothers.  Of course, I'm excluding mixed race but Blake Griffin ought to count in the white column.

Flagg is on a different level athletically, though. I think that?s what Melo was trying to say. Flagg is 6?9 SF with a 36 inch vertical leap. I?m not sure we?ve seen that before.

Melo said we haven't seen it for a long time not that we haven't seen it before.  I think he's referring to his overall skillset and ability to be a top player in the league.  Flagg measured 6'7.75" at the combine.  36" max vert isn't special.  Pat Connaughton is a couple inches shorter but he had a 44" max vert and a 37.5" standing vert.  And he definitely can dunk.

We have had a few athletic white players in the interim years and we have had a bunch of skillful white players. What we haven't had is a player who is both athletic and skillful. That is Cooper Flagg. That is what separates him. He has both.

Pat Canaughton is a 6?4? guard. He?s not a 6?9 SF. Like I said, we haven?t seen it before.

As I posted, Flagg isn't 6'9".  He measured 6'7.75" at the combine while Connaughton measured 6'5.25".  And you completely ignore that Connaughton's standing vert 37.5" was more than Flagg's max vert 35.5" and his standing vert was only 29".  Cody Zeller (6'10", 230lbs) had a 35.5" standing vert and 37.5" max vert.  These numbers are from nba.com.

So you are posting Flaggs height without shoes and Connaughtons height with shoes.
Pat measured 6?4 without shoes and is a Guard. Also, Cooper could still be growing, turned 18 in December.

Luke Jackson and Joe Alexander also had very good vertical leap measurements.  I remember both of them being the darlings of their respective pre-draft combines.

Brent Barry was the ultimate "white American" athlete that never took the next step putting it all together.
