In his latest episode of “The Shop,” LeBron was asked about places he hates to play and mentioned Boston because Celtics fans are  “racist as f***.”

LeBron mentioned the time someone poured a drink on him as he walked back to the locker room after a game in 2012, but he said that at this point in his career, he largely ignores the racist comments that come regardless of the city.

In off-the-record conversations, players will say that racist comments can come in any city, but it’s more prevalent in a couple of places, with Boston and Salt Lake at the top of the list (the Jazz had an issue with a fan and Russell Westbrook a few years ago). It’s not just a basketball thing with Boston, the MLB’s Tori Hunter talked about the issue in baseball.

So on my bingo card I have
“Boston’s not racist, you’re racist.”
“LeBron is the real racist.”
“It’s just as bad somewhere else.”
“Why is it always about race.”

And
“Well actually there’s very little overlap between people who are talking about this issue online and the problematic parts of the Celtics fan base. There’s also the fact that Boston has been outrageously redlined forever but you probably wouldn’t notice it unless you drove down the wrong street. Really this is a multifaceted problem that comes up often enough that it might make more sense to support players and fans calling this stuff out for being unacceptable than get mad because I, personally, am not a racist.”

Oh no, my last one is actually
“What a snowflake.”
"...unceasingly we are bombarded with pseudo-realities manufactured by very sophisticated people using very sophisticated electronic mechanisms. I do not distrust their motives; I distrust their power. They have a lot of it."

So, people can't defend themselves now?

If someone hears LeBron say that and goes “he’s talking about me! I have a right to defend myself”…

Well, Jeff Foxworthy made an entire career out of this setup, so you probably know how the punchline goes.

And they do, so stop acting like they have to be quiet.

they don’t have to be quiet. equally, it’s fine for me to make fun of them for being upset for being told that if they look like ducks and quack like ducks, they might be ducks. That’s how this two way street goes.

Isn’t it ironic that someone who is upset about racism, which is a form of prejudice, which comes from the term “to pre-judge”, is pre-judging ALL Celtics fans to be “racist as f***”. 🤦

The issue is, Lebron calls Boston fans extremely racist, but his examples don’t cite race.  He complains about a beer poured on him 10 years ago (classless and assaultive, but not inherently racist), and about fans wearing “ F—- LBJ” shirts.

Stuff like that is why the United States is really divided now and days.

I bet more than one white player has had beer dumped on him and his family lineage insulted .

I d say Boston fans are equal opportunity when it comes to personal insults of the opposition.  ;D

Refs are particular targets of excited fans 8)

But is it more or less divided than in 1843, when a property deed in Brookline explicitly specified that the land couldn’t be sold to a “Negro or native of Ireland”?

A national first, by the way.

I would say that maybe knee jerk opposition to uncomfortable ideas is, indeed, part of why the US is the way it is. But I don’t think it’s coming from me. Have a nice day.

There's events like that and then there's statements like this one. For the record I don't disagree with what Lebron said about Celtic fans, but of course how he says it is going to generate debate and how to deal with the issue especially in sports fanbases. Making fun is nice and all but it just takes away more than it adds.
