If this kid plays next game like that last one, he could get roster spot. Talent is obvious. You can see how much the coaches want the ball in his hands as much as possible. We don’t have a point guard who can do that and it adds another dimension for us.
Also good to point out how impressed I am with the Celtics coaching in summer league especially the past two seasons. Our teams seem so much better playing team defense, running offense and just overall hustle. Really impressed. Celtics have great culture you can see it in the summer league team.
Would you choose him over Pritchard?
I mean would you make Pritchard expendable in a trade to land a rotation caliber backup wing or backup center. Then have JD Davison take over as 3rd string PG.
It would be nice to have a real PG who can be a change-of-pace type option as 3rd string PG behind all those combo guards. Pritchard is a solid player and very good outside shooter but he doesn't offer that contrast; that pure PG type skill-set.
I see a lot to like in Davison, as I said earlier in the thread, but I would be shocked if the Celtics made that kind of commitment to him at this point. To me, the more likely scenario is that they continue to look at him as a 2-way player and maybe look to do something with Pritchard at the trade deadline. And even that is a big maybe. Davison still has a ways to go before you could say OK, he is good enough to replace Pritchard.
Pritchard is far more expendable now that we have Brogdon in addition to White and Smart, that is true. If they do trade him to get more of a wing or a big, it probably won't have anything to do with Davison.
I actually think White is the more expendable player because he would yield a lot more in return and he can't shoot the ball. White is basically a crappier version of Smart, at least Pritchard can shoot. He isn't ever going to be more than a 10 mpg type player, but his shooting can keep him in the league and with a role for years.
