The guy that JD reminds me of right now: Marcus Banks.
Perfectly acceptable career outcome for pick 53. Not for pick 13, ahead of David West, Leandro Barbosa, Boris Diaw, Perk and Luke Ridnour in the first round.
Much more athletic than Banks, better passer too, his shot blocking skill is very rare for a guard.
Again, time will tell, but so far I’ve heard the kid has:
Elite athleticism
Very good to excellent size
Very good to excellent passing
Very good to excellent basketball IQ
Very good to excellent rebounding
A game reminiscent of Westbrook
The question I’m wondering is, if this stuff is so obvious, why did 52 guys get picked ahead of him?
Considering this team's recent track record in the 2nd round, chances are he's not going to make it. But to me he looked decent in his first game and I'm looking forward to watching him develop.
I definitely hope he makes it, and drafting for upside at #53 makes a ton of sense to me.
The hyperbole just cracks me up. If Davison has the present day skills that some Celtics fans say he does, he should have dominated the SEC at the very least, and been a top-20 pick. Some seemingly are under the belief that he's polished at everything other than shooting, which isn't my impression.
I don’t think anyone would argue that he has those present day skills. His shot and decision making have a long way to go. But, he has the physical tools which makes the speculation fun. He’s a low floor / high ceiling kind of guy. I think when people post with optimism the are seeing the glimpses of what might be in the future.
That’s definitely more fun that the safer guys with less upside that Ainge used to take, like Gomes, Powe, Harongody, Nader, Demetrius Jackson, Carson Edwards, etc.
