I've got to say, this is the least emotionally invested in a Finals series involving the Celtics that I can remember. Whatever the outcome, I think I'll be at peace. If we win, obviously I'll be ecstatic, but if the team doesn't come through, I've enjoyed the ride.
This and most definitely this:
That said, I fully reserve the right to change my opinion after the inevitable screw job in Game 7, haha.
But…if we’re going to lose game 7 in another screw job like 2010, there’s nobody I’d rather lose to than Steph Curry. It will be emotionally draining to lose, of course, but losing to Steph is the guy you wanna lose to if you’re going to lose and nothing can be done to stop it. This would cement Curry’s legacy as a top ten NBA player, and probably put him ahead of KD. Would hate seeing all the replays over time of him overcoming the Celtics in his post-KD title, but at least it be met with a reminder about how wrong KD (with Kyrie as a footnote) was when he chose to leave the Warriors (and the Celtics for Kyrie when people talk about that footnote). All about the silver linings.
I've seen the narrative that Steph would be top 10 all time and I just don't see how. He isn't better than any of these 9 players without argument virtually across the board: Jordan, Lebron, Kareem, Duncan, Bird, Magic, Russell, Shaq, Wilt so for him to be top 10 he then has to be better than every single one of these players: Hakeem, Moses, Dr. J, Oscar, Kobe, Garnett, Durant, Giannis and that doesn't even get into guys like Charles, Dirk, or the Mailman (who obviously don't have the championships, but are higher up in many of the leaderboards). There is a significantly better argument that Curry isn't top 15 all time then that he is in the top 10 all time and that won't change no matter the outcome of this series.
