Honestly, I think Boston's mentality this summer should be thinking like Middleton didn't get hurt and Boston lost to Milwaukee in the ECS. I think that is the more realistic view of the team and as such the summer should be planned like that. And that thought shouldn't change no matter the outcome of the last 2 games of this series.
I agree. Even if we win a title, the other teams in the East are going to be better next year. Milwaukee will have Middleton back. Brooklyn, Philly or Miami all have some flexibility to improve. We need to add significant improvements to the team, and we have the financial flexibility to do it. Wyc needs to authorize Brad to use all of our trade exceptions as well as the MLE to add talent.
Yeah, and let's be clear, this team needs more addition by addition and not addition by trading a top 7 piece away. If Theis or Nesmith or Pritchard need to be included for a major upgrade so be it, but I don't think this team needs to do anything more than use the TPEs combined with picks or use the TMLE.
This is all relatively true. As the commish says, basketball is a zero-sum game. If one team wins, others lose. If one team improves, others have to get worse. You have to stay ahead of the game by internal development, and clever roster moves.
Luckily, I think we are primed for great internal development. Now that you have your main pieces, its easier for the 8-15 guys to know what they need to do to impact the game. I think CBS is one of the best basketball minds at finding the right kind of guys to be in that position. I also think Ime and his staff will do a better and better job developing them.
However, I also think one more offensive piece would really help the Cs. We need one more guy on offense that can be super-aggressive and get his own shot.
