We were generating better looks than we would have from a T/O
Strongly disagree. We were extremely fortunate that Smart sold the fake FT and caught it. Paint was way too jammed up after that, particularly with a 6’4 having the ball. A well-designed timeout play could have yielded the three for a win. Brown was on fire. I do not blame the players, but disagree with Ime’s thought process by not calling the TO.
You’d prefer one shot at sub-30% odds than three shots at the rim?
Tatum and Brown are clutch, so I disagree with sub-30% odds. You use that timeout, call a great play and let Tatum or Brown take the last shot. I believe Brown had enormous momentum in that quarter and would not have missed a decent-look three to end the game.
Of which there is no guarantee, unlike the handful of chances we had at tip ins
It would have been hard to call a timeout given that everyone was scrambling for the ball. Can you imagine Smart actually scoring on that putback only for the refs to waive it off because a timeout was called?
It’s Smart, not Tatum, Brown or Horford. Score after the TO and that would be forgotten. Even if Smart had scored the first put back without calling a TO, plenty of time left for the Bucks to take the last shot for a win.
On the other hand, could Smart have called the timeout himself after he got the rebound?
Ime should have directed all players to call TO if we caught the missed FT.
I mean, hindsight is 20/20. And Ime has been amazing. This is like when Belichick makes one of those few errors where you wonder, “what-if?”
We need to win game four. That’s all I know for certain. It’s probably not possible to win three in a row against the champs, even without Middleton (and the fact they’re up 2-1 without Middleton tells me we need to get one more guy this off-season somehow/someway to make sure we can always get past the Bucks). Here’s the deal: I think if we can get past the Bucks, we’re going to be the champions. The Suns, Warriors, Heat and 76ers do not matchup nearly as well against us as Giannis/Bucks. This series is basically the NBA Finals to me at this point…
