If you had asked me a few months ago, I would have said that I don't expect Horford to be back and so his replacement would be priority 1. Al Horford has been our Power Forward for the entire season. He has been good, really good. And at this point, there is no reason to think he can't come back and do it again next season. That will create cap constraints for us, mainly that if he plays at his full $26.5M, it means that we can't do any sign and trade deals. S&T deals mean we become hard capped and it would be really tough if Al's full salary is included. But we can use the TPE for a regular trade. It will just put us in the tax.
If we are planning for Horford to be our primary PF again next season, that is one less hole we need to fill. Our biggest hole right now is a bench wing. I doubt we spend the entire $17M TPE on a bench wing but it would be nice to have a Richardson-type player for that role. I doubt Richardson specifically is going to come back. Other than that, most of our roster is coming back and is looking pretty good:
Guards: Smart, White, Pritchard, Begarin? Fitts?
Wings: Tatum, Brown, TPE-TRADE, Nesmith, Hauser?
Bigs: Horford, RWill, GWill, Theis, Kornet?
If you fill in around our core top 10 with second round picks and a few hold overs from the end of the bench, that pretty much fills in the roster. The very end of our bench, Fitts, Hauser, Kornet, maybe Stauskas, could easily be upgraded but the bench wing is the only real need in 1-10. We have Stauskas on a non-guaranteed deal for next season. It will be interesting to see if he can give us anything as a bench wing.
