With the Fournier exception, we can trade for somebody making up to $17,242,857 million.  You can find player salaries here, https://hoopshype.com/salaries/players/ , although Hoophype does have some inaccuracies.

In utilizing the TPE, it's important to get somebody who is going to fit in with the team and buy in to the defense-first mentality.  Ideally, the player would be an eventual Horford replacement, but that might not be a realistic possibility.  The other area of need seems to be backup SF, if Nesmith doesn't get it going.

So, what about...  Josh Richardson?  It fits the Brad model of bringing back guys who will fit on the team, he's cheap, and he plays defense.  Plus, he's easily tradeable at the deadline if we want to make a bigger move.

(My current dream off-season is to use the TPE on Richardson, and then trade White for Harrison Barnes.  But, that's a pipedream I think.)

How about Aaron Gordon if the Nuggets are getting salary shy?  If acquired on draft night he fits the TPE.  Then after his extension kicks in he can be traded for someone of higher salary.

My dream for this TPE is Duncan Robinson. I think he's expendable for the heat with the emergence of some of their lesser known guys.

Would love us to get them:
  • Christian Wood
  • Josh Hart

Meh, but wouldn't be against either:
  • Kelly Oubre
  • KCP

Ugh! I hate to have Oubre on this team. Whenever I watch him he gives me major Terry Rozir vibes. He's a ball stopper, that loves to take shots. Not a guy I want to add when we need to get JT and JB as many shots as possible. His size and athleticism fits our mold perfectly. So maybe we could get him to buy in.

not seeing a Horford replacement out there that another team would trade us unfortunately.  I would absolutely love to get Bruce Brown on this team by hook or by crook this offseason even if it meant using part of this TPE to get him if he's commanding more than the MLE and Brooklyn tries to resign him.

as for your dream offseason, I could have sworn you were all onboard the Derrick-White-is-great train.  I still have issues with this deal being a real overpay (especially with White's less than stellar play against the Nets).   We'd have to give up more than White to get Barnes and would have a real hole at backup PG (love Pritchard but I don't see him as the primary back up PG).  getting Barnes in that deal and using the TPE on Richardson roughly translates into giving up Romeo, a first, a swap and whatever else goes out the door with White for Barnes.   not sure that's great asset management.

If you had asked me a few months ago, I would have said that I don't expect Horford to be back and so his replacement would be priority 1.  Al Horford has been our Power Forward for the entire season.  He has been good, really good.  And at this point, there is no reason to think he can't come back and do it again next season.  That will create cap constraints for us, mainly that if he plays at his full $26.5M, it means that we can't do any sign and trade deals.  S&T deals mean we become hard capped and it would be really tough if Al's full salary is included.  But we can use the TPE for a regular trade.  It will just put us in the tax.

If we are planning for Horford to be our primary PF again next season, that is one less hole we need to fill.  Our biggest hole right now is a bench wing.  I doubt we spend the entire $17M TPE on a bench wing but it would be nice to have a Richardson-type player for that role.  I doubt Richardson specifically is going to come back.  Other than that, most of our roster is coming back and is looking pretty good:

Guards:   Smart, White, Pritchard, Begarin? Fitts?
Wings:    Tatum, Brown, TPE-TRADE, Nesmith, Hauser?
Bigs:       Horford, RWill, GWill, Theis, Kornet?

If you fill in around our core top 10 with second round picks and a few hold overs from the end of the bench, that pretty much fills in the roster.  The very end of our bench, Fitts, Hauser, Kornet, maybe Stauskas, could easily be upgraded but the bench wing is the only real need in 1-10.  We have Stauskas on a non-guaranteed deal for next season.  It will be interesting to see if he can give us anything as a bench wing.

I’d love to have Richardson back, however, I think the C’s are hoping Nesmith can be the back up 3 and Pritchard has become more of a 2, but he’s undersized which is why he fits well playing next to White. I would say there is almost no chance the C’s move White considering how much they gave up in the trade and because Brad and Ime are so fond of him.

I would absolutely love to bring back Richardson and then to trade White for Barnes. I was going to start a trade White thread after the season. Sorry, but I just don't love his fit here and think Richardson/Payton would be more than adequate as back-ups.

I'd also be on board with bringing in Aaron Gordon.

As I've said elsewhere, of the guys reasonably available, I'd go pretty hard after Wood.  I think he would be a great fit offensively.  Lose some defensively, but I think he has the talent to at least be neutral on that end, but I really like his offensive fit.  And while, Boston has looked awesome against Brooklyn, I'm not sure they have enough firepower to beat a healthy Bucks team.  Wood would help a lot with that.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

The C's will need a depth wing and another Big to replace Al after next year.  The depth wing will be easier to obtain vs an Al replacement.  Al does way to much and players like him do not grow on trees.  The bigs can either play D or score/pass.  Not many that can do both.

How long can Al play, do you think?  I'd love to keep him around on a smaller contract.
