Since there was already a "big 3", out of respect for them we should name these new celtic core 3  superstars should have a different nickname, a nickname of their own is best for them and for the big 3. Which one is the best?

How bout Trinity as a nickname?

Too religious probably, but it sounds good.

I will go with the simple yet practical, "Big 3, 2" as in the Big 3 the sequal. It will be a sequel like Godfather 2, Empire Strikes Back or Revenge of the Nerds 2 and not like Dumb and Dumberer or Major League 2. The trifecta is also good a good one.

Don't want to seem insensitive, but this hanging of a handle on three guys that haven't won a single game as teammates is strictly high school, maybe even junior high, at best...My niece, for example, had an Email user name of Gapgirl when she was 15, but even she dropped it, blushingly, when she began college.
Please allow for the moniker to evolve into being as the wins pile up...we can use whatever we wish to describe these guys for convenience until then, ever keeping in mind that we're dealing with a team sport, not a three on three...
If we end up raising banner #17 to the rafters, we might even start calling them the "Hegelian Triad!"...Hah!...Just kidding...
One last note...To my mind PAG, although less dancinggirlliesh, beats GAP into submission for anybody who recognizes that Paul is the veritably stuff from which this present team is based.  He has even left his teeth on the floor for the Celtics and is the foundation of any good things that happen to this team...Without him, no Ray Allen, without them, no Kevin Garnett...
Going one step further, if our fondest hopes should materialize, we may even end up remembering this entire TEAM as "Ainge's Assassins"...Now there's one that includes everybody.

A word on the above post, I had originally attempted to post it as a responce to the What's in a name article on the main page...I tried a number of times, but always got Too Short as a reply.  If it looks a little odd here on this post, it's because it encompasses an allusion to Spear's Gap Band offering...No difference...Let's let the first team at least for once  beat the subs, or, and this is perhaps stretching it, the Celts beat the Wizards on opening night before we begin the deification process...(What color's that smoke coming from the chimney?)...Thanks!...I needed that.

triple threat is great; but I think it is time for Paul pierce to put an end to this. He is the only one who has not publicly come out for the recognition of a team concept. Everyone if flattered by RA, KG and Doc are always quick to include others. Have not heard this from PP. I really think that Rondo House Posey and Tony are going to be a major part of whatever is accomplished and just what that is remains to be seen. We haven't proven anything. A Threat is appropriate, right now that is all they are. But lets come up with something that is more inclusive.

I suggest:  The C's Trio.

At first I was thinking, The Truth's Trio or Pierce's Trio because when KG and Allen came they said that this was Pierce's team.  Although that is admirable, I think that the world will see KG as the leader because he's vocal.  So why not the C's Trio?  This will be in terms of a Jazz Band.  I imagine KG on the drums, Allen on the piano, and Pierce on the bass.  All of them love to dress so in terms of marketing, you show this scenerio and then just like in jazz when each musician does a solo but in this case you show each players individual highlights.

I would market it like this.....Appearing tonight at the garden, The C's Trio w/ Friends.  You show all 3 playing these instruments and then you introduce them, on Drums...The Big Ticket, on the Piano...Ray Allen...on the Bass...The Truth.  Then you can show the other players with other instruments and say joining the C's Trio will be "fill-in" who ever contributes that night or as of late.

The C's Trio w/ Friends Tour 07-08.  Be a part of history.

Why is it so important to give three players a nickname?

I love American sports, obviously, but I have never understood the obsession with giving everyone and everything a nickname.

Honestly, most of them are terrible.  I can't stand it when Chris Paul is reffered to as CP3 or Chris Bosh as CB4.  The worst nicknames are those such as J-Will or J-Smoove, awful just lazy and useless.

Nicknames should develop naturally and become a sign of importance or endearment.  It's a sign that a player has really become a star when their initials or first name become as easily recognisable as their full name.  I'm thinking of Kobe, KG, Amare and Shaq among others.

I have no problem with thinking of a nickname for these guys but I'm pretty sure something will develop and if it doesn't, then maybe they aren't worthy of an emotive nickname.

I kinda just skimmed through the three pages of the thread, so if this is already there, I aplogize, but what about "The New Three"?  And that can get shortened to "TNT".

It's simple, explosive, and pays homage to the Big Three without disrespecting it and stealing it's thunder.

  • KG is da Man
I know this thread's not that new anymore, but I hope someone reads this.
In the recent interview with the Triple Threat on NBA.com, whatever you like to call them, KG's come up with a new name, well for the whole team, but I guess can be applied to him and his other 2 partners in crime. "c-tles. You know the Beatles, well, we are the C-tles, and I'm Paul," KG. Well that was more like a joke, ok, but we can always give it a try.lol
Anything is possible!!!
