Brian Robb if MassLive is reporting the Lakers have made an offer of Talen Horton-Tucker and a pick.  Not sure how real the rumor is, but Richardson is an obvious fit in LA.  The issue to me would be what pick (a first, no earlier than 2027, or a distant 2nd) and if it’s a first, what sort of protections?

I’m not a huge THT fan, but his contract isn’t terrible.  He’s very young (turned 21 this season), and it‘s possible he could either turn into a more valuable trade piece down the line, and/or be a useful rotation player in the meanwhile.  Given how far off that Laker pick is tho, I’d want pretty limited protections, because it’s certainly a downgrade to this year’s roster.

Horrible
Deal.

THT isn't a good player.  Terrible shooter.  While the pick could be great it's 5 years away.  This deal does not make the cs better.

your point about the pick is important. what's THT's upside -- Richardson? so not really a sensible deal for BOS unless they get an asset that's better than THT.

There was some buzz around Talen Horton-Tucker coming out of last season but that seems to have died away.  He is a SG with a career 3p% of 27%.    For context, Romeo Langford is a career 31% from 3pt.  Nesmith is 30%.  I don't know, is THT any better than Langford or Nesmith?

Unless that pick is totally unprotected, I'd have zero interest.

THT is a really interesting prospect in my opinion. I don't think he's done becoming the player he will be. This trade would also get us out of the tax.

On top of that, they basically traded Tristan Thompson and Moses Brown for THT and a future Lakers pick. That's really good value.

But I think Steven and Ime both really like Richardson too, and its really tough in the middle of a playoff push to tell Brown and Tatum that you are lowering the overall talent of your playoff rotation.

Maybe for Nunn, filler, and a top-10 pick in 2027 or 2028.

Otherwise screw the Lakers.

THT's skillset does not help this team.  I'd go so far as to say that he wouldn't even be a rotation player here unless our roster changes significantly in the next few days.

Lakers can keep him and whatever picks they have left.

Fair point, but Richardson has been better than expected -- one of the few smart, recent moves by Boston. Is it worth undoing it?

Yes, it’s about the pick.  The 2027 pick could be coming off a season where the Lakers paid a 41 year-old Lebron and a 33 year-old Anthony Davis $105 million. That’s a pick with a lot of potential.  Lottery protected, heck no.  Top-4 protected, you have my attention.  Less protection than that?  I hope Josh Richardson serves you well.

Right... not exactly dying to bail Anthony Davis, LeBron James, and the Lakers (who are REALLY going to struggle to upgrade their team this week) out.....

Have fun selling Tatum and Brown on a trade that jettisons our best bench player for a pick that may or may not be valuable in five years.

Agreed -- if lightly / not protected, it's also far enough a way that it could be a hope asset in a larger deal with a poorly run team, provided it's traded soon. Like, "team X also received the coveted unprotected Lakers 2027 1st round pick from the Celtics."

Don't sell them on anything -- turn around and trade it in a larger package for an upgrade.
