As others above have brought up, THT has fallen off alot huh? I remember there being some buzz around him his early years. I have literally no idea what to think of him at this point.

your point about the pick is important. what's THT's upside -- Richardson? so not really a sensible deal for BOS unless they get an asset that's better than THT.

Yes, it’s about the pick.  The 2027 pick could be coming off a season where the Lakers paid a 41 year-old Lebron and a 33 year-old Anthony Davis $105 million. That’s a pick with a lot of potential.  Lottery protected, heck no.  Top-4 protected, you have my attention.  Less protection than that?  I hope Josh Richardson serves you well.

Agreed -- if lightly / not protected, it's also far enough a way that it could be a hope asset in a larger deal with a poorly run team, provided it's traded soon. Like, "team X also received the coveted unprotected Lakers 2027 1st round pick from the Celtics."

Unprotected picks several years out are really difficult to come by these days, and thus I can’t imagine the Lakers really offering that nor the Celtics ultimately making a deal.  But those picks normally net you far better players than Josh Richardson, and the Celtics could do something special this off-season armed with that and their trade exceptions.

He’s only 21, so he’s still in his early years.

Have fun selling Tatum and Brown on a trade that jettisons our best bench player for a pick that may or may not be valuable in five years.

Don't sell them on anything -- turn around and trade it in a larger package for an upgrade.

Are we convinced that it's even worth that much to anybody?

Keep in mind that this is the Lakers that we're talking about.  Yes, Lebron will be gone (or a shadow of himself) by then.  Same with AD.  But their ability to reset through free agency is unmatched in this league, simply because they're located in LA and stars want to go there.  Their most recent championship happened because Lebron and AD wanted to play in LA, in spite of disastrous mismanagement of the franchise for the half-decade-plus prior.

Expecting them to bottom out is a mistake, and IMO it's one that GMs won't make when evaluating this pick in a potential trade.

My guess is they are talking about a 2nd round pick. Not a first. You don't give up first round picks 5+ years into the future for players like Josh Richardson.

It's a dud offer.

I wouldn’t mind this:

Celtics: Austin Reaves, Lakers 2027 1st (unprotected)

Lakers: Josh Richardson, Suns 2022 1st

Thunder: Talen Horton-Tucker, Lakers 2nd round pick

—————————

Celtics get a solid young rotation player who has size, can shoot and can handle the ball…and the Lakers future pick could be special. Schroder would also no longer needed to be traded as it would save the team 10 million.

Lakers get someone who would be perfect next to Westbrook, Richardson can shoot, handle the ball and defend the perimeter. The Suns pick will most likely be the 30th selection (essentially 2nd round pick).

Thunder can use this trade to reach the salary cap floor and get a young prospect who can be given playing time and allowed develop properly.

the Lakers have nothing of value to trade

The Lakers are desperate so it wouldn't surprise me. These are the guys that thought Westbrook would put them over the top.

Yeah I still like his potential. People forget how young he is. Hasn't even really gotten a chance yet. The problem is that I don't know what opportunity/fit there is on the Celtics right now. But adding a young talent like him is worth considering.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I like Josh, but I would totally do a THT/lightly protected 1st deal. We essentially got Josh for free anyway.

I don't think the buzz was really warranted.  Anybody remember Rodrigue Beaubois with the Mavs?  It was the same thing:  he was a guy that Dallas kept valuing extremely highly...  until he was out of the league.

What do you envision “lightly protected” to mean?

I like Josh and don’t think much of THT. Plus we have the leverage in such a deal. I wouldn’t settle for less than top 3 protected, if that.

I do, I rostered him as a waiver add in a 20 team fantasy league maybe 10 years ago. Not as good a waiver guard as Goran Dragic was in that league for me a few years prior, but still solid for a time.

I'm not for the deal but if made, pick must either be unprotected or pick swap if protected in top 3 (Lakers still get a pick but ours instead of keeping theirs -- it'll never happen)
