I don't think they are trading Smart

I know I know, "no untouchables", but I think the goal for the rest of this season is to roll with a Top-4 of Tatum, Brown, Smart and Timelord and then maybe the goal is to make two moves. 1 minor move to clear some money, and another move to potentially add a solid scorer or bench piece to go along with at least 1 of Richardson/Schroder and a few others (playoff bench rotation). Or maybe that's one trade that accomplishes all of it. We'll see what Brad does.

Al & Smart for Bog & Collins works in trade machine & would do it…

That's the kind of trade that makes sense for Smart.

That's what I have in my trade deadline prediction. A man can dream.

I have Smart for Bog plus a 1st for my deadline prediction.

That may be true, but it’s easypeasy to save money this year.  They can send Fernando or Dozier to OKC with $3 million, avoid $1.5 million of their own luxury tax payments, and get $14 million from other teams’ payments.  It’s like a nothing trade for $12+ million.  All while clearing up a roster spot for a buyout guy.  It’s not the best move, but it’s a) cost effective and b) probably makes the team more competitive, because there has to be a free agent who’d be more useful to the C’s than Fernando.  It won’t be as dumb as last year’s dumping of Theis and Javonte for Wagner and Kornet.

Juancho is already gone.

I meant Fernando.  Got my useless bigs confused for a minute.

I hate this misleading, throw away line. This ownership paid the tax 5 straight years 2008-2013. They paid it again in 2018-19 with the Kyrie attempt. And they are staying out this year to delay the repeater tax because we are FOR SURE a tax team over the next few seasons making a run with the Jays and the delay lengthens the championship window

The owners have proven they will pay for a team they believe they can win a championship with.  If they feel that this team can win then you will either see a deal to strengthen the bench or a small deal to move a player to get under the tax and keep Dennis. I can see two of the end of bench guys moved to open a roster spot for a buyout player brought in on the vet minimum.

I don't feel sorry for the owners.  But I do keep a tiny green little violin in my desk drawer just in case.

Who does? And why would they?

Be interesting to see who gets Smart if Hawks and Mavs are really bidding on Smart due to the Luka, Trae history

I don't care about the owners money.
But until I can buy the team, I hope they spend the money that they will spend as wisely as possible.

The Mavs and Smart is a recycled rumor every deadline and off-season because Smart is from Dallas.  Just like Brown must eventually be traded to Atlanta.
