I really want to add Jason Kidd to The Jays, but thought this was an interesting topic. I'd trade Brown for 5 firsts and Giddey right now. What say you.

Not sure whether Giddey is a future star or just another Ricky Rubio. A mature well-rounded young player with little upside. I wouldn't trade Jaylen for him.

It would take at least 5+ firsts to get my attention. That or to be convinced Giddey is indeed a future star. I don't watch OKC enough to know.

Those shooting and scoring numbers scare me off.

where's the option "there's not enough firsts to even have that discussion"?

Jaylen is far superior to Giddy and still improving.  there's absolutely no guaranteed that even if you had every first round pick from OKC that you could pick a player that turns out to be as good as Jaylen.  Never understood the fascination with giving up great talent to take a low percentage chance to get someone as good as what you're giving up.  it's like throwing $10 in those arcade claw games hoping to get a prize that might cost $12 but most are worth $1-$2 with a significant chance of coming up completely empty.

Giddey is 19. I understand that a bunch of 1sts is also in play here, but the last 7 1sts we had resulted in one quality starter but not a star (Robert Williams) and one marginal rotation player (Grant Williams). The others are either gone or only play episodically.

Giddey may end up being a great player but that's going back to square one, even if it works.

If you want to get a player, my guess is that Brown or Tatum will net you Dejounte Murray plus additional assets. Obviously Tatum would mean a bigger additional haul. If we were blowing this up, I'd rather offer Tatum for Murray, Keldon Johnson and next year's unprotected 1st from SA. I would guess they'd do it, and I think we'd be better off. I'm less impressed with Tatum than most, and think Brown still has upside as a scoring machine, especially with a real point and no Tatum.

This is well put, particularly the ugly reality of Cs drafting. I would point out that RWIII's star potential is still a work in progress.

This I disagree with, especially lumping Brown and Tatum in the same value boat.

If we were blowing this up, I'd rather offer Tatum for Murray, Keldon Johnson and next year's unprotected 1st from SA.
I'm not a Tatum homer, but i think this isn't close to his value. The Cs could get substantially more than this, IMO.

Brown is likely a little different story, but I still don't see Stevens doing such a deal.

I'd consider this as a framework if Giddey wasn't so young and prone to make a lot of mistakes before Tatum's time was up.  SGA and picks for Brown more intriguing.

How good are the first going to be? If I'm getting 7 firsts but all of them are 20-30 that doesn't really do much for me.

If I'm getting giddy, a guaranteed top four pick and other stuff.... Well actually i dont think i'm doing that either because if you want to build the next great team around Tatum then I don't think you cant wait 3-4 years on giddey/picks to develop.

That's the problem with trading Brown, there are trades you can do for picks and prospects that make sense strictly value wise. But those trades mean a rebuild, they mean probably also trading Tatum, they mean a step back. They just don't line up with the C's who want to win in the near future around Tatum.

Do you think the Thunder would trade us SGA for Brown, straight up?

That said, what is the obsession on this site with the desire to trade Brown? I simply do not get it.

Maybe it's just a few with this desire, maybe not. But until Brown comes out and says trade me or the Celtics make a trade including Brown that gets you Jokic, Giannis, Luka, Embiid, Durantetc, these type of players, Jaylen needs to stay on this team for a long time.

Because it’s a Boston sports team?
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

I want to keep him.  It's a GMs job to explore any and all possibilities.  For instance I know you love Brown but if they are offering 6 good firsts plus Giddey I'm pretty sure you would take that deal am I right?
