Tip of the hat to Ime. It's only his first year and he has things to improve on but he's done a fantastic job. Erik Spoelstra is one of the top coaches in the NBA and while I don't think Ime outcoached him, I did feel that Ime held his own.

Agree ,  handled it all, the good and bad  with professional touch grace in winning and losses.

Certainly a plus for the good side of Karma .

Yes, coaching is about season-long preparation as well as in-series and in-game adjustments.  While I do think there is still some growth for Udoka in terms of game management, he’s clearly proved himself with getting his team to buy in, which is honestly the most difficult part of coaching and managing, and also the least noticeable.

For example, the officiating was awful last night.  But the Celtics, who’ve been admonished all year to play through the officials, did just that.  A bad call happened and they weren’t stuck at one end of the court yelling, or lying out of bounds waiting for a call that would never come.  That was buy-in to what Udoka has been preaching all year, and it came out at the biggest moment.

You may want to back up on that comment Gouki.

Butler scores 35 instead of 47 and we played him better ???
Giving up 35 points to anyone but maybe Wilt Chamberlain is still a defensive failure. And ... there were zero adjustments on the court that I saw. Just kept playing him with one hobbled defender and sometimes with Derrick White. Ime just sat there and watched the guy eat us alive. You were criticizing Ime for the same thing, No ???????
We were no longer making the same defensive mistakes (Smart mistakenly iced screens last game, for example), and our defence of Lowry, Strus, Vincent and Oladipo was much better in G7 in adjusting to the moving screens set by Adebayo.

We held them to 6/30 shooting from three when they went 15/35 last time - you don't think that's a coaching adjustment?

I was commenting on defending Jimmy Butler, specifically, not the other guys, who ran hot and cold the whole series regardless.

Just amazes me how supportive of Ime you are now that we escaped Miami.
You were all over him in the game threads, criticizing his "bad coaching" several times.

It's called balance. I'm critical of him where I think he falls short (rotations management, misuse of Tatum and Brown by giving them the ball too far up-court, defensive assignments that I disagree with), as I have been plenty of times in this thread too.

But his defensive schemes are still elite. He has our perimeter defenders moving and switching as one, without even a nanosecond of hesitation. Against perimeter centric offences, having no weak link on defence in most of our lineups is a crazy thing to provide. I think it's possible to give credit where it's due whilst still criticising when mistakes are made.

I think our defense and Ime's overall creation of that defense has been excellent.

One more time now, my criticism was aimed specifically at games 6 & 7 and how Ime sat there and did nothing to change up the defense to get Butler off balance and to get the ball out of his hands some. I could have missed it, but I never saw one possession where we jumped Butler with a double to stop him from driving at will and making short jumpers, layups or getting fouled. Yes, a healthy Marcus would have slowed Butler down, but Smart is playing on a very bad ankle, which impacts lateral movement more than anything.

Oh, this is pure gold.

Quote from: REDACTEDlink=topic=105768.msg2982465#msg2982465 date=1640943278
Brad has given Ime his vote of confidence and support despite the team's travails. His comments, along with Brad's deliberative nature, suggest that Ime will be here for some period of time at least.

Quote
Stevens left Butler University and was hired as Celtics coach in 2013, and he said that by March of his first season the travel, roster turnover, and, frankly, the losing had left him feeling “gassed” and “cooked.”

But for Udoka, who played in the NBA and served as an assistant coach for nearly a decade, the rhythms of NBA life did not require as much of an adjustment. Still, his first season holding a top job has been filled with unprecedented challenges created by the pandemic.

“I have a lot of admiration for him,” Stevens said. “He’s seen a lot in his first 35 games as a head coach, right? He’s seen the wild swings of ups and downs and has every right to be super-emotional and riding the roller coaster and all that, and he’s pretty darn even. He’s always going back to work. So whether we win or lose, he just goes back to work the next day and tries to help this team get a little bit better. It is not easy.

“He’s a guy I believe in. I just think it’s so important not to get into celebrating your success or bemoaning your losses. It’s about, go find solutions. And he does that. He’s constantly searching, constantly thinking.”

He needs to go too, he's one of the two Pitino facsimiles we have in the club right now. Seeing him clutching at the greasy straws of the vibe man not getting emotional at doing a terrible job as a reason to keep him around is hilarious and depressing at the same time. At least I'm looking forward to the excuses he'll make for his fellow carbon copy of Pitino once we finish the season as a lottery team

Calling Ime "Uchoka", certainly didn't stick or age well.

I don't get the Vibe Man moniker either.  Did I miss something there?
