Y'all just gotta trust a bit more.

And stop looking at the win/loss record because that doesn't tell you much when you're trying to go from under .500 to above it.

Progress is a process, not a straight line drive.

Signs were always there. Smart shooting less. Getting huge leads on great teams. JT passing outta double teams.

Yes we fell back into bad habits a lot, but that's why Ime played such a tight rotation imo; to train new habits. That's how building a team works. You iterate and do things over and over until they become second nature.

Said it in literally the first response in this topic, and I'll say it again;

There's ways you can improve that don't include just randomly firing and trading every piece you have.

No matter how often it is said I will never listen! :P

Yes, Kiorrik, you may turn out to be right. Let's hope so. But that was some call you made.

Have you ever seen a team make such a dramatic turnaround in such a relatively short amount of time. I haven't. It was almost as if the players showed up for practice one day after another embarrassing loss and said, "OK Coach, we'll try it your way for a change."
Actually a team having such a turnaround is quite common. Great example is the Patriots first Super Bowl winning season. Just last year Atlanta in the NBA had an amazing turnaround after a horrible start. Pretty sure Miami did back in 2017. You see it in baseball all the time.

The signs were there, even in the first 20 games or so. There was an article i read (i forgot where, it might be cb) about the stats that shows change even if the early record didnt reflect that.

For the turnaround to be reflected they needed a few catalyst

1) everyone to be healthy
2) easy part of the schedule

Its hard to implement and accept changes if you barely see results. Sometimes you know its right but doubt forms in your mind. Thats why they needed these 2 catalysts.

I think it was ludacris to even suggest firing a guy we hired just 3 months into his job. I don't know if that's ever happened in professional sports without some extreme factors.

From a fan perspective Ime came in at probably the worst time. We knew we had talent, we knew there was flashes of greatness, and the team just came off a .500 season. Add in on top of that, a guy that had never been a head coach before.

So when the season started, and it looked a lot like last year that's when the fangs came out. Ultimately the turn around comes from 3 things: An aggressive Tatum (shot selection and playmaking), better overall team shooting, and a defense that travels every night.

I am glad we hired Ime, and I am glad things have worked out for him this early.

It should have been pretty clear that at the time this thread was started (25 Dec 2021), that it was too soon to judge Ime either way.  Too soon to conclude he was a bad coach, too soon to conclude he was a good coach.

At that time, we were playing good defense but the offensive execution was not good.  For me, the team did not have a clear scheme to react to double teams.  Their off the ball movement was not good, not purposeful.  On the surface, it looked like Tatum (for example) wasn't passing but what I saw was that there wasn't anyone to pass to.  Tatum had the ball and everyone else was standing around.

It turned out that Ime did have a scheme and that once we got through a series of injuries, and the core line got a run of games where they could all play together, that the players picked up the scheme and everything clicked.  And once it got started, passing lead to more off ball movement which led to more passing and so on.

Looks like Ime is a keeper after all.  And that this hire was not just an effort to check an affirmative action box or to appease the players.  Ime has shown he is a good coach.  He may still be a great coach.  We will have to wait and see.  I will say that I expect him to be better next season than this season.

Yeah, that was a horrendous coaching job. You have both Giannis and Brook Lopez in foul trouble in the 2nd quarter and you don’t go at them until halfway through the 4th. Made zero adjustments at halftime. Ime should have been telling Tatum to attack the paint so that he can get to the line. Just seeing a couple of free throws go through can get a shooter going. Tatum had 3 Free throw attempts the whole game. C’s settled for jump shots the majority of the game and didn’t start taking it to the rim until halfway through the 4th Q. I also have no idea why you have Grant lining up at the FT line for the last play of the game next to Giannis and Lopez while keeping Horford in the backcourt. Does Ime not know that Al is a far superior rebounder? The coach was really bad today and I think he cost them this game.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

If Ime controls the fixed refs then he didn't do well.

The C’s had a chance at the end. They weren’t out of the game. It was terrible play calling in crunch time.

Needed to sub in Theis at the end for Giannis' free throws.  Failure to secure that rebound cost us the game.

the players cost the game.  Brown and Smart knocking into each other to allow Portis to get the rebound is on them, not Ime.  though I do think Ime should have pulled Tatum in that first half when he was constantly going iso and bricking shots

Except we had it secured and Marcus and Jaylen didn’t communicate and Jaylen punched it out of Marcus’ hands.

All that said, that might be one of the most monumental playoff losses. In control of the game most of the 2nd half, and a chance to put yourself in real control of the series, and now need something pretty improbable to happen to win. Not good.

Ime could've brought in bigs to rebound...

Smart really crapped the bed to end the game. Holiday looks like the DPOY not Smart.

That and whatever Marcus was doing at the end of the game...

Except we never secured it at all.  If you want to maximize your chances of grabbing a free throw rebound, put in your bigs.  Coaches do it all the time.  Ime failed in this regard.
