I love having Joe Johnson back for ten days, but we've now signed three emergency small forwards ... wouldn't it have made sense to pick up one guy to back up Bruno Fernando? We let Luke Kornet escape to the Cavs.

Exactly. We were already short on power forwards even before covid hit, and we're short on centers right now too. We could have signed at least one big man.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Box score from the last game he played for the Celtics before being traded to the Suns his rookie year:

Feb 16, 2002

https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200202160SEA.html

Starters:

Pierce
Walker
Anderson
Eric Williams
Battie

You've simply got to love Employee #8's stat line from this game. Classic Walker, all the way across.

Not really 'classic'. That was an especially bad game for him. The dude was an All-Star 3 times and helped lead Cs teams further in the playoffs than they had any business going. I get it, he was inefficient, but people seem to think he was one of the all-time worst players.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to have Joe back on the team. Nice to see any hard feelings of being traded 20 years ago should be gone with this signing  ;)

He might even be more valuable than our 3-stringers combined

Love it. He might be old, but I'm sure he can still score on most NBA defenders.

His defence might not be too flash though...
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

The longer Joe Johnson and CJ Watson stay with the team, the better it is for the ceiling.

This team is too young to have the amount of players on their 1st contract and reclamation projects. Winning teams are veteran-laden with few exceptions; inexperienced players and reclamation projects are still trying to figure it out individually with their primary goal as to cling to a roster spot, while experienced players have figured it out individually and have set their primary goal to win a Championship.

When we replace the likes of Hernangomez, Parker, and Fernando with Joe Johnson, CJ Watson, and the like, we’ll see this team raise their performance level. Welcome Joe!

Seeing Joe Johnson out there was bitter sweet. Really miss seeing the great players I grew up watching. KG, Duncan, Kobe, Shaq, AI, Pierce, Ray Allen, T-Mac, Vince Carter, Dirk, Nash, Kidd, Webber, Peja, Yao, B Davis, Sheed, Stevie Franchise...

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

The fans and the media seem to love Iso Joe. Even Jaylen said that Joe Johnson’s presence in the locker room is huge. Is he worth keeping around past his 10 day contract for an end of the bench guy like Jabari or Bruno?
