Maybe it's like a player coach thing. Joe has seen a lot of schemes/systems he has always been a decent player in all the different styles.

That would make sense. He's basically Ime's age.

Box score from the last game he played for the Celtics before being traded to the Suns his rookie year:

Feb 16, 2002

https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200202160SEA.html

Starters:

Pierce
Walker
Anderson
Eric Williams
Battie

If he plays, will this be some sort of record of number of years in between appearances for a certain team? Has anyone ever played a game for a team and then play their next game for that team almost 20 years later?

I would imagine it has gotta be, especially since the number of players that show up in NBA game 20 years after they debuted is very small.  First few names that I think of:

Kevin Willis - 10 seasons between Atlanta appearances
Jason Kidd -  11 seasons between Dallas appearances
Chris Webber - 14 seasons between Warriors appearances

It was only 8 or 9 years, but didn't Barkley hobble out on the court for a couple of minutes with the Sixers to close out his career?
Yup

On further research, and memory jogging, he injured his knee with the Rockets in a game against Philly, then came back at the end of the season with Houston to play a few minutes while still recovering.
Yup

I was right lol

Yep.  I thought he’d make a roster, but I was mostly jesting about the Celts.

I’m excited to see him back.  It’s essentially fan service.

From a basketball perspective, if you’re only going to have guy for 10 days with little to no practice, an ISO expert makes sense.  No one you’re going to sign for 10 days is going to gain chemistry that quickly.

I hope he gets to play some minutes vs the Cavs, just to see why he was even signed. I did read that he won consecutive MVPs in the BIG 3 so maybe he still has something left in the tank.
You gotta wonder if other Big-3 players might have a bit left in the tank.  Last time I watched that league, Cuttino Mobley looked good and he's 'only' 46.

I'm a bit surprised they didn't just go with Scal. At least he's a power forward and knows all the plays and players.

It’s essentially fan service.

It's the only explanation, over taking a look at an actual NBA prospect. But CJ Miles makes no sense at all.

You've simply got to love Employee #8's stat line from this game. Classic Walker, all the way across.

If you're going to sign an old dude, shoulda signed Manu Ginobili instead.

Guy'll prolly be able to break down an opponent off the dribble then bank one off the top corner of the glass until he's 80.
