The kid was the best shooter on the team last year,  he's got unlimited range, he's a good passer and a scrappy solid defender.

He's not the most switchable player on defense,  I Know neither is Denis. Whether you play PP at PG or SG. He needs to get on the court more often.

At the very least he could be a nice trade chip, but for that he needs to actually play bug minutes.

Of course this thread happens after Pritchard's first good shooting game all season in which almost 100% of his shots took place in garbage time. Dude couldn't hit water from a boat all year, but 1 good game in garbage time and suddenly it's been a major mistake to not play Pritchard.

PG is Smart, Schroder and Josh minutes right now.
SG is Brown, Smart, Josh and Langford minutes.

Probably going to take a Schroder, Smart or Josh trade to see much of PP.

He booked a full season last year. We have cut his shots and minutes by more than half. That is a difficult adjustment for a shooter. It is not unreasonable to expect he could do what he did last year if he had a similar role.

I do think Richardson is bound to be a better option shorter term, and he's bound to ruin development for Langford, Nesmith and Pritchard longer term.

I love Pritchard but the priority on defense and the addition of veteran plays in front of him have relegated him to a deep bench role. It's good to see his shot coming back after that unfortunately broken nose. He needs to stay ready because it's a long season.

Pritchard isn’t playing because he’s limited and is a worse player than those in the rotation ahead of him.

It’s that simple.

I don’t see Pritchard anything but a 3rd role player
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

yep and Nesmith pretty clearly has a much higher ceiling.  Pritchard is very old, he will most likely be out of the league in a season or 2 based on what he is right now.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Turning 24 next month.  When did 24 become old?  As a comparison, JJ Redick, about the same size as PP, didn't hit 20m/g until he was 25.  I'm not suggesting that Payton will have a career as successful as Redick but give the guy a little more than a season or 2 to have an impact on the game.

I disagree with your opinion. Pritchard has a longterm future as a valuable back-up point guard.
Excellent pick by Ainge, although Bane would have been fine as well.

or I actually pay attention to history and understand it.  There are certainty guys thst enter the league late, struggle early, and end up with nice careers (Seth Curry comes to mind), but they are pretty clearly exceptions to the rule.  The guys that enter the league later and stick around by and large are very good players almost immediately.  Older guys can't take years to develop because they then generally don't develop.
