To what extent do we JKJB?

We are building around Jayson Tatum and the best way to do that is to just keep Jaylen Brown.

We are building around both Tatum and Brown and will need to find another path to improving the roster rather than trading one of them.
14 (36.8%)
Jaylen Brown is the best player on the team. I am only opposed to moving JB and more inclined to move JT if the if the right deal presents itself.
7 (18.4%)
I want to trade other parts of the roster (Smart, Richardson, Etc) before forming an opinion on whether or not to trade Brown or Tatum.
5 (13.2%)
It's been 10 games! I want to give the roster more time to gel before even entertaining any trade proposals. Especially trades involving Jaylen Brown!
3 (7.9%)
Tatum and Brown does not work and needs to be broken up. Of the 2, I support keeping Jaylen Brown.

Look at Milwaukee — Tatum is no Giannis, but JB is better than Middleton. Difference is then they have a Jrue Holiday who is a better lead playmaker / PG than our guys. Upgrading our 3rd-best player would elevate this team to contention IMO.

The main difference between MIL and BOS is that one of their big 3 is a big.  Our big 3 are two wings and I guess now Horford who really isn't good enough to be considered a big 3.

I don't have any problem with trading Smart or Richardson or Schroder or Williams or whoever.  But if it doesn't result in us getting a true starting level big, it isn't going to help much.

Horford is at 21.6 PER, passes the eye test, is averaging 14/9/3 30 MPG this season, and has been a superior player throughout his career according to traditional stats, advanced metrics, and team results than Jrue Holiday. Holiday is a good player, he's appreciated more than ever coming off of a solid season, and was better last season than Horford, but to think Al isn't good enough to form a big 3 (while Holiday is) is ridiculous.

Horford is #2 in BPG, Williams #6, Horford is #20 in RPG, and Williams #34 in a switch everything defense, where they're often guarding an opposing player on the perimeter instead of one foot close to the paint (being in position to block or rebound) like most of the other bigs that don't have that ability and aren't put in those situations.

I'm not throwing in the towel on this roster or this season. Udoka has to implement the right system, make the necessary adjustments, and solidify the chemistry; Tatum and Brown have to raise their game to #1 and #2 on a Championship team level players (All NBA); and the role players have to perform their role. I don't think the holding opposing teams to sub-80 on 2 occasions as an outlier performance, the quality of players and depth of this roster is going to win out sooner or later.

I wanna keep JB for both reasons; on/off-court.

I think off-court he's my favourite human in the NBA at the moment.

On the court, I see a dude that continues to improve every, single, year. I see him as potentially the most legit number 2 scorer on a team, anywhere. I fully believe he's going to be able to contribute to a championship team in that capacity.

And I want him to do that for US.

I guess I should explain JKJB.

Last season at the start of the year, James Harden became available and there were many posters, some good intelligent posters, others just trollish, across both Celticsblog and CelticsStrong, that were all to willing to not only include Brown in trade proposals for Harden, but also seriously undervalue him by including lots of other players and picks to close a deal.

This then snowballed after Harden was moved to the Nets and Boston started slowing down after their hot start. But, Brown was playing like a superstar for the first time in his career. He grew his game every year. He came back better every year. He became tremendously efficient at all three levels offensively and was still a versatile plus defender.

This is all after an impressive playoffs where he played magnificently helping to lead Boston to the ECFs again and a summer of racial reckoning in America where Brown lent his formidable voice. On and off the court Jaylen showed himself to be a true Celtic. Heck, Brown was even signed to bargain deal.

And yet the trade proposals wanting to move Jaylen grew. There were 4-5 guys across two different sites that seemed to want to put out a daily trade proposal moving Brown for a ridiculously bad return.

So being the obvious JB schill that I am, I got sick of responding with reasonable responses to these trade proposals and simply said the Celtics needed to Just Keep Jaylen Brown...#JKJB. It was just easier than arguing with some of the nonsensical posters throwing out these trade proposals that were undervaluing Brown to the nth degree.

That doesn't mean I thought Jaylen untradable. Heck, I think in one proposal in a Luka for Brown trade proposal, I said that as much as I loved Jaylen, I would drive him to the airport myself if the Celtics could get Doncic for him.

There aren't a lot of guys in this league I would trade Jaylen for, but there clearly are some. The reason for being particular in a return for Brown is not only does he play the most important position in basketball, the high scoring, versatile defensively, 2 way wing, but his contract is a bargain and he is an unfinished piece. His game grows every year and appeared to once again, before pulling that hammy.

How good can he get? I don't think being a top 10 player in this league in 1-2 year's for a period of time through his prime is unheard of. I think it likely.

And I think it likely Tatum is a top 5 player through his prime. You have to keep these two together. You have to make it work. You have to find the right complimentary players. And if you do, I see title #18, #19 and maybe more.

So JKJB and let's see what he, Jayson and the right surrounding players can do when they hit their fully developed prime in 2-3 years.
