Rate Our Players (Like / Dislike)

Smart has obviously had an awful start to the year, but the hate for him is overblown. If we didn’t have Smart, we would probably be viewed as one of the most Charmin soft teams in the league.

I don’t think most people are judging him on an eight game sample. Last year was an abomination from him, and he’s had plenty of dumb behavior in the past. This year, it seems like he has decided to bundle all of his negatives together, but really it was last year that made him lose his luster.

Not to mention things like missing a flight, going postal on coaches and players after he shot the team out of a win, punching a picture causing s laceration bad enough to keep him out for weeks during the playoffs and I am sure there are things I am forgetting.

I am done with Smart's act. I loved his defensive game and effort for years until his defense fell off after that first 1st team All-Defense honor. His defense hasn't been the same since. And he has been shooting 38% from the field, 33% from three with a TS% of 52% on 10 FGA per game since that time while his defense has gotten progressively worse.

I wouldn't have extended him. I would have moved him last off-season or sometime before the trade deadline this season.

While I agree he wasn’t “right” last year either, it wasn’t a statistical abomination. He had solid assist, rebound, steal numbers.

Overall, the guy has been a top 6 or higher contributor (I’m estimating, his minutes have been 27+ every year) on every team since he was drafted with all 7 of those teams making the playoffs. There’s a reason for that. People act like he’s trash, and I think that is short-sighted and foolish. He’s far from a perfect player, but if every player on the Celtics consistently played as hard as he does, I think we’d be very happy with the product.

Like: Nesmith. Kid has real potential to be a great 3&D guy just has to harness all that wild energy.

Parker. I'm just rooting for the guy after all the injuries. He still has 6th man of the year potential imo.

Schroeder. He's really grown on me. Feisty defender and competitor.

I thought of him, but I don't think he's very far ahead of Smart in this regard. He made that monster blunder in the Finals, obviously. But he was also a 6MOTY and a 2 time champion. He was a good player in New York and Denver.

He also only got $10+ million in three seasons of his career. In fact, he was mostly paid under $7m a season. Much less than Smart.
