Actually, I kinda like how Ime called out the guys in the media. I like it because it is different from the previous years. It's a shot in the arms, a wakeup call for the old players, that a new era is beginning,

That's why I love Schroder, as he infuses new blood to the team. His spirit, energy that sometimes is borderline mad. Can you imagine where we would be today had the C's not signed him?

The jury is still out whether Ime's approach will be effective or not. But, I rather have it than repeating the same old tricks.

Brown's not making a big deal out of being called out.

Idk. Maybe we shouldn't read into it too much either.

Also, maybe Ime had these conversations with Brown first. That'd make it a bit different too, talking about it in public as well.

If you actually watch the press conference he didn't seem to have the tone of voice that implied he was throwing Jaylen under the bus...just sounded surprised.

Personally I'm ambivalent about it...I'm a big subscriber to keeping dirty laundry in house. If you need to criticize players in public to put pressure on them I think there's a communication issue between you and that player. That said, if a player had a terrible game, and the public could see it, I don't see anything wrong with Ime being honest and communicating that to the press. In this case Jaylen agreed he had a terrible game, and came out very flat, and so there was no disconnect between Ime and him. Also I think it's just as bad to mouth meaningless platitudes at a presser just to avoid players' feelings getting hurt, especially if they played a bad game. That's one of the things Brad tried to do to protect his players, he would take the blame a lot even though they had bad games and the fans (and some of the media) wanted him to acknowledge that.

So I think honesty and directness is ok...the main issue will arise when there's a difference of opinion between the player's opinion and Ime's. Or if the player is insecure and/or egotistical and doesn't like being publicly shamed...then you could lose the locker room. Just look at what happens every time Jose Mourinho falls out with a team, it usually starts with him continually throwing players under the bus. Eventually they stop playing for him to get him fired.

But these public comments, or the coach's public persona, is just a small part of his total interactions with his players...I'm sure he's made it clear how he's going to be handling them, in private and in the press, and given them a heads up.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

So it's 'look at how this guy throws players under the bus' for one of the greatest managers of all time while it's 'I'm sure he's made it clear with the lad, no issue here!' with a completely unproven coach , oh boy our Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is here alright!

I would be inclined to agree if said player wasn't a week away from having COVID - there's a difference between rightfully slamming a player for being crap because he isn't applying himself correctly and throwing a lad under the bus because he's been inconsistent after recently recovering from a virus that's known to cause long-term issues in a person's cardiovascular health.

I think most of this thread is way off base. Ime said nothing Jaylen's effort. All he said was the disparity between games was "mind boggling." If he thought it was an effort issue, he would have said that, or more likely talked to Jaylen and not the press.
Jaylen heard Ime clearly and agreed that it was confusing. He DIDN'T say I'll give more effort, he said he'll communicate more with the medical team to try to boost his recovery time. Message sent and message respectfully received. No one was "thrown under the bus."

He certainly implied it was effort or why else would he need to pump him up and ramp him up.  If he wasn't questioning his effort he should have said it differently

Doing a great job in Rome right now (besides the Bodo nightmare but Edited for profanity.  Please do not do it again. happens) so I'm perfectly fine with you slandering him when he'll bring silverware to a club that's had a 14 year drought while the clubs that sacked him recently are having torrid campaigns so far
