Brown's not making a big deal out of being called out.
Idk. Maybe we shouldn't read into it too much either.
Also, maybe Ime had these conversations with Brown first. That'd make it a bit different too, talking about it in public as well.
If you actually watch the press conference he didn't seem to have the tone of voice that implied he was throwing Jaylen under the bus...just sounded surprised.
Personally I'm ambivalent about it...I'm a big subscriber to keeping dirty laundry in house. If you need to criticize players in public to put pressure on them I think there's a communication issue between you and that player. That said, if a player had a terrible game, and the public could see it, I don't see anything wrong with Ime being honest and communicating that to the press. In this case Jaylen agreed he had a terrible game, and came out very flat, and so there was no disconnect between Ime and him. Also I think it's just as bad to mouth meaningless platitudes at a presser just to avoid players' feelings getting hurt, especially if they played a bad game. That's one of the things Brad tried to do to protect his players, he would take the blame a lot even though they had bad games and the fans (and some of the media) wanted him to acknowledge that.
So I think honesty and directness is ok...the main issue will arise when there's a difference of opinion between the player's opinion and Ime's. Or if the player is insecure and/or egotistical and doesn't like being publicly shamed...then you could lose the locker room. Just look at what happens every time Jose Mourinho falls out with a team, it usually starts with him continually throwing players under the bus. Eventually they stop playing for him to get him fired.
But these public comments, or the coach's public persona, is just a small part of his total interactions with his players...I'm sure he's made it clear how he's going to be handling them, in private and in the press, and given them a heads up.
