Regardless of the complaining, I just don't see Tatum as the guy. I think Simmons and Ryan summed it up best about him the other day. He has so much skill, but doesn't "get it", and will he ever put it all together. He's only 23 but he's been in the league for 5 years. I don't see it. He's not a great shooter, his iso game is below average even though he thinks its his bread and butter. For every 40+ game he has, he shoots 5 for 25, he complains non-stop, and he just looks slow and clunky every time he drives to the basket. Beal feels like he can get where he wants to go whenever he wants. I never have any confidence that Tatum can beat his man off the dribble. I've also never seen a player miss so many point plank layups.

If I had to make a choice between trading Brown or Tatum, I'm definitely trading Tatum. If I'm Brad, I look long and hard about trading Tatum this season. He still has great value around the league. If we can find someone that pairs better with Brown, or a ridiculous package of young players and picks I pull the trigger. This team is going nowhere and Tatum is not the man. He will never reach Pierce levels let alone become a top 5 player. Time to break up this team, and Tatum is the player to trade.

Tatum and pieces for Zion?

Not a lot of players I am trading Tatum for, but if Brad feels Tatum might try to pull an Anthony Davis, players I would consider for Tatum would be:

KAT
Zion
Luka
Jokic
Giannis
Davis
Curry

But none of those would happen. If Tatum is forcing his way out I would have to settle for

SGA
Booker
LaVine
Fox
Mitchell
George

Anything else, and it's move everyone but Brown and use picks to build around him.

I would do Booker, Fox, or Mitchell no question. LaVine, I'm not sure he matches much better with Jaylen. George doesn't really fit the timeline. If we felt B. Simmons was going to be able to get it together, I might even consider him. I think Jaylen featured as THE guy, with a player that could drop dimes, this team would be in a much better position.

Tatum has Lakers written all over him. Just think about it- he grew up a big Lakers fan and is a Kobe diehard idol. I'd be happy to move Tatum for Luka, but Dallas laughs and says no. Pelicans and Wolves might consider though.

Please, no KAT.

He is a weaker competitor than Tatum. In fact, he is the center version of Tatum.
Tons of talent, but does not have the mentality for winning titles.

Tatum gets fouled on almost every drive and gets almost ZERO calls....And when he does get the call, the Refs overturn it and CHEAT for Washington to get the win ha.

Per Mark Murphy of the Herald, Ime has implored JT to not "take it personal" with referee calls. Says he is determined to break Tatum of his habit of complaining to the refs and getting distracted.

Quote
The Celtics played the Wizards for the second time in four days on Saturday night, this time in Washington, and that meant another joust for Jayson Tatum against his good friend and opponent, Bradley Beal.

Tatum clearly lost his cool Wednesday night, picking up his second technical foul of the season for protesting a non-call under the basket. Ime Udoka doesn’t believe the cause was Tatum’s ongoing competition with Beal. Instead, it’s something that the Celtics has acknowledged he needs to control — frustration when the call doesn’t go his way.

“I don’t feel it as that,” the Celtics coach said of whether Tatum is getting too enmeshed in games against Beal. “Obviously they know each other and they go way back and there’s going to be competition level there. But I think it was more getting frustrated with the officiating and he let that get the best of him.

“Obviously he got a technical but he was trying to prove a point to the refs instead of keeping it simple and playing the right way,” said Udoka. “That’s something we stressed is don’t take it personal with the referees and do the right thing no matter what, and complaining about calls is not going to make it any better for you or the team in the long run, so felt he got caught up a little bit there, frustrated, and then tried to do it by himself instead of relying on his teammates, which he’s been doing a great job of this year.”

That said, Udoka believes that Tatum has to do a better job of adhering to his request that players stop complaining to officials.

“You have to address it and be honest about it and just understand habits don’t die easily, so it’s something that I’ve preached from Day One, something I’ve spoken to him individually about,” he said. “During the game we tell him to move onto the next play. But it’s not something that’s easy — it’s a league-wide thing. And for him just playing through it, and understanding that he’s gonna get calls if he keeps being aggressive, but at the same time don’t do it by yourself. So I’m understanding of the habits that some of us have, tendencies we want to break, and I’ll just continue to address those. It’s like parenting to some extent. They’re not gonna just listen to you the first time. Some things have to be broken.

Apparently it is going to take time, that arm throw up after every time he perceives that he was fouled is truly annoying.  You know the refs just love that kind of behavior.

How much percentage of his drive that he raised his arms approximately? Guess it’s more than 50%? 😁

I don't care about the complaining, per se.  But for whatever reason, Tatum is not getting calls. Maybe all the refs have a grudge against him for some reason.  Or maybe he's just not good at selling contact.

Either way, that is the major thing holding him back from being as effective as he could be, IMO.  Every elite scorer who profiles as a superstar with a similar level of talent as Tatum that I can think of will peak at around 8-10 free throw attempts per game. Tatum seems to be stalled out around 4-5 FTA per game. That won't cut it.

Jaylen is similarly ineffective at getting to the line, which also confounds me somewhat. But Tatum is so much more skilled and polished on the offensive end, it's frustrating that generating free throws is such a void in his game.

Let's be real, if it comes to "time to look at Tatum trades," we're boned.  At that point we've probably already traded Jaylen in a desperate attempt to catch lightning in a bottle, and now the only thing left to do is start looking into upcoming lottery prospects.

I think JT is too naive to think that all slight contact when driving to the rim should result in a foul. Won’t happen to him and to all other NBA players as well, maybe barring LeBron.

So, rather than focusing on feeling the contact (and slowing down his drive in the process), he should just go full speed and find the rim. He will reduce his point blank misses once he focuses more on getting the basket than feeling the contact.

Hope he goes to the Nets and we get nothing in return. He makes me that upset. I called out of work twice this week. It was enlightening to hear that Jaylen believes in Covid. He’s intellectual
