Horford /Timelord
Simmons
Tatum
Brown
Schroder/Smart

Not perfect more talented that what we have now. And I dislike Simmons a ton. We might have to do something drastic though.

Just a thought.  If Simmons actually played aggressive and like a good teammate, he theoretically could play very well with Tatum and Brown,  neither one is naturally gifted at playmaking.

And Simmons doesn't have to worry about taking the last shot here.

On paper, if all I had to consider was their basketball talents, that's a great lineup that would be a no-brainer. My concern with Simmons has always been his work ethic and his mental approach to the game and to his teammates. Obviously you need to have talent to succeed in the NBA, he's a 2 time All Star so he has talent in spades...the issue for me is his mental approach to the game. The lack of improvement since he entered the league...compared to the leaps and bounds that the 2 who were drafted 2 and 3 in that same year, to me that speaks to his work ethic, to a player who is ok with where he is. Obviously where he is, he's a 2 time All Star and a very gifted player so maybe he feels he doesn't need to get better.

And what's happening since his trade demand...I worry that if we did trade for him, what's to say the same thing wouldn't happen to us if he fell out with Ime or his teammates? I'm not sure how much of it is being driven by Rich Paul and how much by Ben, but that would be a big risk to me to have to consider, that we would be possibly in Philly's shoes a few years from now.

It's very tempting, because a lineup like the one below would be supremely switchable and very mobile. I'm sure there would be plenty of GMs that would be willing to take the risk, and I couldn't blame them. I'm just not sure if I would be one of them.

Can't be done until the off season I believe because of the Jrich extension (at a minimum well into next year).  So it doesn't really make sense to speculate about right now.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I definitely would. It’s a huge risk but all 3 are mega talented. I’d be obviously hoping things were different here as far as Ben working on his shot but if I’m being honest if I had the power I would t hesitate. I’d move smart within the deal if they wanted to take on his contract .

We’re basically giving up nothing so sure.  But Philly would hang up immediately on this offer.  I know I would.

How about if we added Timelord and took someone out.

I would and I don't care for Simmons but Philly would laugh at the offer, I fear.  We desperately need size.

doesn’t seem like a person Brad would want on the Celtics , nor would I imagine the owners ok’ing after the Kyrie circus and the huge public mess and stir he has set into motion.

The impossible would need to happen .

Simmons would want to be in Boston .  And that would most likely result in the same mess that happened with Irving.   I say Simmons was born a Laker and that will be his eventual home and nowhere else.

Any of these players that is not a ‘born Laker’?

nope

no interest in simmons, or giving potentially useful players to the Sixers

That’s a hard one.

Good thread.

I love his talents, but I doubt that a true champion behaves this way. Then again, I believe that Brown, Tatum, and Smart have the championship mentality, so maybe it can work.

TL and Simmons together on offense gets a little cramped.

Smart/Brown/Tatum/Simmons/TL is a potent defensive group.

I hate the idea of giving up Nesmith and Langford. They were great Ainge finds in the middle of the first round and are barely emerging. If one of them becomes Boston’s third wing then that’s a key piece of a perennial contender; if both become rotation- or even starting-quality, well that’s a good problem to have.

Everybody’s freaking out right now, but this team is going to play some great games this year.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

Talent-wise this is a contender. For all of Simmons’ flaws in terms of shooting, he’s really good at other things. He’s also a really strong defender.

Unfortunately, I can see this as a disaster in the making. The ball should still (rightfully) go thru JT and JB the most. Can Simmons adjust his game to be more of a defender/finisher? Can the coaching staff convince him to change his game? I mean, he’ll be like a small and fast DeAndre Jordan with no weaknesses on defense. Jordan couldn’t shoot free throws either but he was a roll threat. Simmons will have the added benefit of elite vision too.

If Simmons is amenable to that, I don’t see how C’s aren’t the favorites for a title.

Imo, this is offensive for the Sixers. I'd do it in a heartbeat for the Celtics. Not sure whether Wyc would be happy to pull the trigger though, cause the luxury tax would explode through the roof. Given that A) we were unwilling to match NY's offer for Fournier and B) we dumped Theis for practically nothing at last season's deadline, I would argue that Wyc is cheap.

According to Ryen Russillo and Zach Lowe, the Celtics are interested in Simmons. I'm assuming we've already made our offer(s) and the Sixers have turned it/them down.
