Interesting. I’m a big Richardson fan and love what he brings us, but I’m surprised by this. You’d think we’d want to keep a few expiring contracts for trade purposes at the deadline, but maybe Brad is looking more for trade possibilities next summer and having traceable contracts then (in addition to just liking these guys’ fit with us)?

Maybe be Brad is looking at the team we have and trying to improve it now as opposed to Danny thinking 15 moves ahead.  Sometimes the here and now is the time to put some help around your stars. Brad is sending a strong message that these are his guys!

Gotta say, did not see that one coming

Me neither. I guess it gives the Cs more control over the future of the franchise in the form of tradeable contracts (rather than hoping for an FA signing, ala Beal).

Also, all these signings/extensions remind me of the Pats going crazy this offseason. I know the Pats had lots of money to spend, but also part of the calculus was the knowledge that the cap was going up a bunch next year, and so the Pats locked in lots of players for what will seem like cheap money come next year. Is there something similar going on here? I know nothing about the NBA salary cap plans going forward...
Celtics fan for life.

This is great news for the C’s. Really surprised a starting caliber wing would agree to that after  seeing what other guys are signing for. He’s only 27 years old too.

This is what my initial reaction was as well. He must have had a very good impression of the Celtics organization in the short time that he’s been with the team.

It makes sense from a stability standpoint.  It might suggest that the Celts aren't aiming to make a big move at the trade deadline, but they'll maintain flexibility into next summer.

Wouldn’t Richardson have more trade value being under contract for another year at only $12M vs just being an expiring contract?

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Usually not, unless he has a very good year.  I mean, we got him with a full year left on his contract for Moses Brown (and Dallas needed to be talked into taking back Brown's salary).

He's only 22 so not a bust quite yet but his time is running. He needs to lit a fire under his own ass at this point. Nesmith seems to go harder all the time he's on the court.

Do you remember who a lot of fans including yours truly thought Romeo reminded us of?

James Young. Just no real desire to improve.  Very passive players. Not interested.  Have fun flipping burgers buddy.

Looking ahead to next year, I think this signing, coming so close in the heals of the Fournier TPE acquisition, indicates the Celtics do not plan to have Horford here on his current deal next year.  That was always the most likely thing, but now keeping him would likely preclude using the TPE they just gave up a second for, given the salaries committed to Tatum, Brown, Smart, Williams, and now Richardson.  I’m still hopeful that he’ll be stretched and resign to a small deal, so we get value for him while he’s on the books.

Also, I’ve given up thoughts of a Beal trade.  I know technically this makes Richardson more tradeable next summer, but I think re-ups in Washington because he likes it there, and doesn’t want to hop cities to ring chase (which I totally respect.)

Yes.

Not necessarily. How about we let ‘em duke it out in camp?

Really? Please elaborate Tony Delk. I'm a Romeo hater. Here is what I see. Good player on D. Good effort. Athlete.

On offense. Useless. Supposed to be a cutter, slasher. Handle is horrible.  Can't shoot a link.

Tell me what I'm missing.  Tp for solid answers

Sure, but it’s not a good look for your chances when your team brings in someone to play over you, and then extends him before you even get to camp.

I think they’ll pick up his option for next year, but he’s got to take a much bigger leap than before to cement a spot in the rotation.

Guess that 3 point shot looks good enough in practice.

I believe everyone on here would love to see Romeo bust out. Summer League was a perfect chance for just that. I don't know what he's waiting for but the time is now!
