Just curious cause I’m not seeing it listed anywhere…

Is there a specific amount these trade kickers typically are? Or anyone have any idea how much extra would kick in if he were to be traded?

Not great - would have rather had him at $68M. He's a good player, but limited. I can't believe they gave him a trade kicker.

Whatever, if he's here for the long-haul, that's fine; if he's traded, that's fine. I won't lose sleep over it, but I'm not going to cheer this move from the front office. They gave him the most possible money they could have. I really hope this doesn't limit future possibilities with our team - say if TL, Nesmith, or Romeo break-out. Smart's a nice player, but he is what he is at this stage. I thought he was fairly paid on his last contract - didn't think he needed a $25M raise.
Actually I think the C’s paid market value for Smart.

Ambivalent about this. If they can get one good season out of him and move him as part of a major deal I'm ok with it. And there's a decent chance that he has a very good year playing for a new coach who's obviously a fan of his.

Team’s making bet that Smart will be a component of their dream team. Hope they are right. That’s rich turf for a pretty inefficient shooter.

When Marcus gets traded, and he will eventually be traded, does his trade kicker count when tallying up outgoing salary in a matching salary situation?

Lots of money for such a wildly inconsistent and often unreliable player. Oh well. Doubt he sees it the whole way through. That could just be me being hopeful though.

'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I believe they are usually 5%, 10% or 15%. That info might be out of date though.

For perspective, of contracts currently signed for next year, Smart is 75th.  There will likely be a few more players who pass him in free agency/rookie extensions.  Certainly doesn’t feel like an overpay to me.

It can be up to 15%, but there’s no rule beyond that.  Sometimes they’re specific dollar amounts rather than percentage.  My guess is Smart got at least 10%, and probably the full 15%, which is fair given all the trade rumors he’s experienced the last several seasons.

It counts to his new team as incoming, but not for outgoing on our end.  In that regard it makes it more difficult to trade if he doesn’t waive it.

who owns the single game three points made record for the Cs?

Besides, Ime Udoka prioritizes defense. Smart will anchor that defense. Can we now slot him as a starter? That is starter money.

Glad to have my favorite player locked up long-term.

That said, he becomes much more movable as a contract now. I’m kind of expecting a Beal trade by the deadline at this point.

Smart can’t be traded for 6 months, so that’s beyond the deadline.  If we get Beal at mid season, it won’t be with Smart.

Hmm, I thought the trade deadline was later in the year now than in previous years where this could still possibly work? Can’t seem to find any verification of the actual trade deadline for this year. Didn’t it get changed the year before Covid to be a week AFTER the All Star Game? If so, this would still be in tgat timeframe I believe.

No, it used to be after the All-Star game, then the year before Covid they moved it to before the All-Star game (Feb 6 is the date I remember).  With Covid they moved it back last season, but this year I think it’s back to the first week of February.

TP. Anything pre-Covid for me at this point is foggy at best.

To be fair, “pre-covid” is about 173 years ago.

It's Bogdanovic money (either of them). Perfectly market-level deal for a starting-level swingman.

Does anyone have those wonky Smart shooting stats offhand about how he's so much better under pressure, guarded, with no time left on the shot clock than when left wide open? Trying to share them but having the worst time finding.

Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
