The 9Cs were way in Smarts pocket on the last contract. He shouldn’t accept this lowball they offered him If I am his agent I advise him to decline this cheap offer.

I see Smart taking the extension.  You think about how much the player will lose but the agent loses too.  They also have skin in this.  I have to think that Smart's agent is telling him to take the deal, don't mess around with this, but who knows.

I am not sure how much difference this makes in terms of when or if Smart is traded.  Does the extension make him more or less valuable on the "trade market"?  I could see it going both ways.  This whole extension discussion started well before Schroder came alone.  It will be tough to sign Schroder long term due to all the restrictions.  Maybe Smart is still the long term plan for PG.

I don't know if he will take it, but I certainly feel like he should.  As others have said, there are a lot of good point guards out there.  Why mess with your future?  If you have 17mil / 4 years you take it.  Lots of bad stuff could happen if you hold out, not as much good stuff can happen if you feel you are worth more and don't take it.

If Smart doesn't take the extension, I think they kinda have to trade him unless they really can't get any good offers.  The team can't afford any more talent drain due to guys leaving without any significant assets coming back.

That sentiment worked out really well for Dennis Schröder and his agent. Lol.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I can't see Smart getting more than 17 million a year but I couldn't see Hayward getting that contract or Jarrett Allen getting 5 year 100 million. It seems risky.

We all know what Smart means to winning. Cs lowballed him. You have to bet on yourself. Shroeder is an isolated case. How many players are in his predicament.

Oladipo, for one...and he blew it even more than Schroder. Yet, nobody is talking about it. Smart should take this deal - it's a decent pay bump and the Cs did right by him last negotiation.

His last contract paid 12 a year….scrubs like Rozier and Biyambo were pulling down 18-20.

Smart takes it or he gets traded.  Cs will get squat at the trading deadline and nothing if he walks in free agency otherwise. They have other PGs.

Not sure why there's any reference in this thread to when he was an RFA. Whole different ballgame.

Exactly …why nickel and dime your captain? Pay the man that holds your three point shooting record.
