A week or so ago, just hours after free agency, this site brought out the pitchforks and was ready to march on TD Garden and riot there while calling for Brad and Wyc's heads. It was clear to almost everyone that the team would suck this year.

A week or so later, Brad signs Schroder for $5.9 million and everyone loves Brad and the Celtics look like they are for real in the East.

The fickleness and recency bias here is off the chart.

Maybe, we all should have had some patience back when it was just hours after the start of free agency? Maybe??

As for Schroder, isn't he just a taller, younger, worse at defense version of Kemba Walker? If Kemba was a bad fit for this team, why wouldn't Schroder be as well?

We are very fortunate to get Schroder for this price whether that’s due to Brad being savvy or just a little lucky with the fallout in LA.  Losing out on Fournier having his bird rights and seeing what he ultimately signed for with the Knicks did merit some criticism IMO.  We could actually have both if we are willing to go deep in the tax.  This is a good rebound back in free agency though.

For Fournier. For Evan Fournier. Deep into the luxury tax. For Evan Fournier.

Yeh I'ma hard pass on that one chief.

Fournier would have cost us basically the same amount that Brad has apparently already offered to Smart as an extension.  He let Fournier walk when he could just as easily have signed Fournier and let Smart walk.  I'll take fournier over Smart all day every day without a moment's thought.

Smart has more value than Evan Fournier.

G: Schroder, Pritchard, Dunn
G: Smart, Josh Richardson, Romeo
F: Jaylen, Nesmith
F: Tatum
C: Horford, Rob Williams, Kanter

Dumpster: Carsen, Jabari, Grant Williams, Bruno

We still have a major need at forward off the bench.

Can we please put Romeo in the dumpster instead of Jabari?  Romeo is freaking garbage and at least Jabari can contribute something for us on the offensive end.  We have enough defensive minded guards who aren't great shooters on this team team right now with Smart, Richardson, Dunn - Romeo is effectively useless at this point.

Hell even against Summer League competitoin he looks like a scrub.

So next we sign and trade for Lauri Markannan?

Guards: Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Josh Richardson, Payton Pritchard, Kris Dunn, Carsen Edwards, Dennis Schroder

Forwards: Jayson Tatum, Aaron Nesmith, Romeo Langford, Grant Williams, Jabari Parker

Bigs: Al Horford, Robert Williams III, Bruno Fernando, Lauri Markannan, Kantar

Likely Starting Roster:

PG: Dennis Schroder
SG: Marcus Smart
SF: Jaylen Brown
PF: Jayson Tatum
C: Robert Williams III

Yikes...that would be a horribly bad starting 5 in terms of shooting ability.  Aside from Brown and Tatum nobody in that starting 5 can be depended on to make an open three.

I said this in another thread but season before last Schroder shot 38.5% from 3 over 65 games and last year he shot 36% over March and April at the end of the season after only a few months with a new team.  He also had covid for a while.

Dig the bounce passes. Pnr execution. Slither to the basket. Very Rondoesque

5.9m for a player like this... Brad you lucky genius

Those are outlier numbers in the data set and if you looked up his numbers you know that.

Last year he was at 33.5%. His first 6 years while shooting a total of over 1300 threes, he shot 32.5% from three. Any way you look at it, he is a bad three point shooter....only a tiny, tiny bit better than Smart, who everyone on this board agrees is an awful shooter of threes.

I haven't watched Schroder that much,  But believe he gets to the hoop better than Marcus and he makes better shot decisions.  That they are similar percentage shooters of 3's counts but if Schroder plays less hero ball that counts also.

I would like Marcus to be traded for a quality big, Schroder and Pritchard I think can make us a better ball movement team.

I also believe if Smart is able to set up and shoot in the flow of the offense rather than rushed he’s a much better 3 point shooter. In lineups with any combination with Schroder, Tatum, Brown, and Horford on the floor with Smart, maybe you see Smart’s 3 point shooting go up.

I think a hidden benefit of the Schroder signing is his compatibility with Al Horford:

The more I reflect on the team building strategy this Summer the more excited I get about this upcoming season. And PBS could have one or two more tricks up his sleeve. (Hield, Markannen)

I somehow forgot that Horford and Schroder were teammates on the Atlanta Hawks for three seasons from 2013-14 through 2015-16.  ;D

I don't get the negativity some have for this signing. Schroder was runner up for 2020 6th man of the year. If his head is in the right place, he can be a tremendous difference for this team.
