Confirmed: Boston acquired Kris Dunn and Bruno Fernando using the Kemba Walker TPE they had available. Celtics created a new TPE for Tristan Thompson.

Current usable Boston TPEs:

$9,720,900 - Tristan Thompson
$5,000,000 - Daniel Theis

Others are too small to absorb salary.

So I guess now that Dunn seems like he is staying I’d suppose Schroeder is out of the picture.

Before you ask:

Boston won't be able to acquire Dennis Schroder via a S&T into the Thompson TPE. That would hard cap the Celtics and push them over the tax apron.

Boston would have to shed salary in that deal, or another deal first.

Wait, why did Sacramento want Tristan Thompson?

They already have Richaun Holmes as their starting center and Alex Len as their backup center. Why bother with Thompson? They even have a PF/C in Mo Bagley who can double up as a center (nevermind it is his best position).

Sacramento is always going to do things like this. Some teams simply cannot stop themselves from cannibalising.

So basically the delay didn't give us anything new, but waste a TPE that we didn't need to waste yet. Or am I missing something?

Sacramento now have

G: Fox
G: Hield, T.Davis
F: H.Barnes, Harkless
F: Mo Bagley
C: R.Holmes, T.Thompson, A.Len

Not looking like a team that is making progress. Stagnation.

Kings have Haliburton and Davion Mitchell too.  It will be interesting if they move Hield to LAC as has been rumored.

Len is a third string center at best

No disagreement here, I just think Bagley is best suited to the 5 long-term.

Haliburton! Thank you. I thought there was someone missing. And Davion Mitchell, that is good.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Just thought I would share this video from old CS/CB friend Beat LA. He sent this to me the other day and it seems relevant now that it appears Dunn could realistically be on our roster. He discusses Dunn's broken shooting form and how it could possibly be fixed.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we see something like De’Aaron Fox & Buddy Hield for Ben Simmons & Danny Green.

G: Simmons, Mitchell
G: Haliburton, Davis
F: Green, Harkless
F: Barnes, Bagley III
C: Holmes, Thompson, Len

Bagley is killing that team. It is actually a pretty solid team (45-47 win team) if they managed to replace Bagley with an adequate PF.

Bagley is such a frustrating player. He cannot defend the four or the five and he is making little to no effort to change that. He doesn't have the skill-level for the PF but refuses to commit to the five.

He does some good things for them but more bad things. He is a net negative for Sacramento. Just replacing him with an adequate PF puts them in that 45-47 win range.
