Just made Atlanta better if they can resign Collins…but always been a fan of Dunn
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

wonder what Fernando addition means for Moses Brown' future.  Fernando seems to have better base to guard bigger centers like Embiid.   Could see him making roster situationally.

Or fodder for another trade in a day or two!!

I had the same thought With Brown's contact not guaranteed he's likely getting cut

Dunn is the best guard defender in the business, he’s one of these poor guys that has been put in a bad situation, time after time.

I’m more of a Dunn fan than Smart because Dunn is cheaper and plays within his abilities. His only major issue is staying healthy and obviously needs a playmaker next to him because he’s not a true point guard.

We can toss out a pretty menacing defensive unit when the situation calls for it.  Dunn/Smart/Brown/Tatum/Horford is nice on that end.

Also saved $3M on the cap, and moving Thompson is addition by subtraction to begin with.

Don’t care about Fernando.  And with the Hawks’ trajectory, that 2nd is likely to be pretty useless too.

Still, solid deal for us.

From 2020:

“In just under 25 minutes of defensive matchup time against the league's top five scorers - James Harden, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, Trae Young and Bradley Beal - Dunn has held them to 42.9% shooting (12-28) from the field and 23.1% (3-13) from 3-point range. Dunn has forced nearly as many turnovers (11) as he has allowed made baskets (12) from players averaging 27.8 points per game or higher.

Dunn was touted as a strong defender when he entered the NBA as a top five pick in 2016 and has lived up to that reputation. The 6-foot-3 guard has a 6-foot-9.5 inch wingspan, quick hands and elite quickness that allows him to be a defensive nuisance. His physical abilities combined with strong instincts have helped Dunn rank third in both deflections (3.9 per game) and steals (2.0) per game this season.

The Chicago Bulls rank seventh in defensive rating (105.6 points allowed per 100 possessions) and are even better with Dunn on the court. Dunn's 101.2 defensive rating ranks 17th in the NBA among 230 qualified players that have played at least 10 games and average 20 minutes per game. And Dunn's defense not only forces opposing scorers to work harder to put up their points, but it also fuels Chicago's offense by way of creating turnovers.”

If either gets cut, I assume it's Fernando.  He's got one year left on his contract.  More importantly, nothing suggests that he can play.  He was presumably simply salary filler here.

Per Keith Smith

The Boston Celtics created some more wiggle room under the luxury tax with their trade with Atlanta today.
Boston projects to be about $10.8M under the tax at the start of free agency. That will increase if the team waives either Moses Brown($500K gtd) or Jabari Parker (non-gtd).

Per Brian Robb

(@BrianTRobb)

A league source tells MassLive that Celtics were able to fit Kris Dunn into Enes Kanter's $5 million trade exception which was set to expire this weekend. That allows them to create a new $9.2 million exception in sending out Tristan Thompson.

Dunn had two decent years at Chicago, was averaging 6 assists.  He struggled last couple of seasons. That Bulls coach was a joke, and last year he was injured.  I'm hoping we can resurrect his career. He is a very cheap contract ($5mm), and plays hard.

Insurance in case Smart gets injured, or moved for someone else.

Brad wasted no time in sending Kemba and TT packing. It's fairly obvious where he thinks the problems last year were coming from.

Too bad we can't combine them into a Voltron TPE
