Heat: 5 years, $90 million for Duncan Robinson.

But we can’t afford Fournier.

The Heat are not exactly killing it IMO. They just got an old, fat PG and signed the 20th best player in the NBA to a contract that will pay him $50 million at age 36. I am cool with us not handcuffing ourselves with Fournier.

We wouldn’t be handcuffed.

We'd be paying our 6th man $18 million a year and likely need to include many draft picks/assets in order to get rid of his contract when we realized he wasn't part of a championship roster construction.

What type of difference are you imagining he makes? From the 5th seed to the 4th?

Yeah, because clearly no team would trade for a 19 ppg scorer who is one of the league’s best shooters.  And Jason Richardson is way worse as a starter.

Main potential suitors for Evan Fournier in free agency right now beyond Celtics as dust settles from initial deals: Knicks, Spurs, Pelicans

Good thing we got Josh Richardson.

San Antonio gives Doug McDermott 3 years, $42 million.

But Fournier isn’t worth $17 million.  Unmovable!

He won't be a 19 ppg scorer as the 6th man and 3rd/4th option on a good team. Look at, for example, what happened to Hayward's numbers when he was on the C's -- and that was before the organization started clearly saying the team is Brown and Tatum's. Brown and Tatum are going to get the bulk of the scoring chances.

It seems like a classic case of "paying for past performance rather than future" and he isn't going to move the needle a ton IMO. I'd only sign him if it were for $15 million a year.

You're advocating we make moves similar to desperate teams...

I'm still holding out hope that we'll sign and trade him for an expiring. It will suck big time if we let him walk.

This assumes McDermott would be movable at $14 million if the Spurs ultimately want to.

Nope.  I’m saying that we retain a guy who is in the top 5% - 10% of shooters and scorers.

Pelicans should be the hope then.  I don’t think they have the cap space to sign him.

I’m shocked at how many fans don’t want Fournier back. One of the best spot up shooters last year and about to hit his prime.

The Spurs are stuck in the middle. Not good enough to make a deep playoff run. Not bad enough to acquire top prospects via the draft either. Imo, McDermott is an uninspiring signing. Really don't like what they are doing.

It would be incredibly disappointing if he walks for below $20m a season. Especially if it comes out that the only reason he didn't come here was because we didn't offer.

If he doesn't want to return there's not much that we can actually do, but all the reports so far have been about how we're "far apart" in terms of the monetary value.

Would be a real one-two punch after the Hayward debacle last year
