As of right now, Horford probably starts and gets most minutes. Timelord comes off bench. TT gets traded for cap relief/bench help.

Curious to see if Cs dangle Timelord in trade talks to see if they can get bigger impact role players. Don’t think they want to pay Timelord. Maybe they try to sell high and find a taker.

I do share these injury concerns. I would look out whether either one of Jokic, Embiid, Towns, Ayton, Adebayo, Wood, Capela and Sabonis will be available for trade for Timelord (+ necessary salaryfiller = probably Horford, and pick(s) if necessary). But if noone of them are available for a reasonable price, I would try to negotiate a good deal with Timelord.

On the bright side, with his injury history it's hard for him to be demanding too much. His talent is undeniable. Perhaps a 50/4 type of contract could turn out to be an absolute steal in the future.
My issue is tying up $12 mil per year in someone who literally won’t play half the season. Cs don’t have much financial flexibility at this point to miss on giving out a bad contract to a guy who won’t give them anything on the court. Between his hip and artery issues, think the Cs should stay away from giving this guy anything tbh.

I assume Horford will be gone next summer or on a re-negotiated deal.
Then our payroll next year will look somewhat like this (145M-150M) and perfectly manageable:

Tatum 30
Brown 27
Smart 18
Fournier 15
Timelord 12
Horford 12
+ MLE 6
Langford 6
Nesmith 4
Parker 4
G.Williams 4
Pritchard 2
M.Brown 2
Madar 2
+ Rookie 2

Wasn’t one of the reasons TL fell in the draft because of injury concerns? I would trade rather than extend.

If Horford is gone and that’s the roster, that likely a 7 or 8 seed in the East and a first round exit.

It also means we have money to sign players. that was his point.

Horford should play the "4". This will allow the "C"s to let Fournier go. Both Langford and Nesmith are better defensively than Fournier and have offensive game too. Timelord and Mo Brown protect the paint and get easy lobs. Keep Tristan because of health concerns. After Kornet, Edwards, that other little guy and either Grant Willians or Semi move on there should be room for a couple players who can actually help.

Horford is way too slow to play the 4 anymore. We saw that in Philly.

Letting Fournier go for nothing also doesn't seem too wise to me. Even if we sign him just to trade him at a later date makes more sense IMO

Assuming no other major moves and bringing Fournier back, I'd probably start two bigs, but leave the two big lineup out there only a short time.  I think the team would be much better off going big to start the game with Smart, Brown, Tatum, and probably Thompson and Horford.  I'd bring Fournier in fairly quickly for one of the bigs though.  I think that gives the team an advantage to start the game, but I wouldn't want to keep that sort of lineup out there for all that long.  I also wouldn't start Williams because I think that is what really wears on him.  Bring him in with about 6 minutes left in the 1st quarter and let him get his minutes that way.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick
