The Boston Celtics don't have much current cap space to sign free agents, but given they can move contracts around to free up room or perform a sign & trade, I put together of a rough list of potential targets. If CelticsStrong bloggers would like I can also put up each players bios and statistics for more information.

Boston Celtics are currently 7.9 million under the luxury tax

Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozen, Evan Fournier, Lonzo Ball, Danny Green, JJ. Redick, Kelly Olynyk, Spencer Dinwiddie, Avery Bradley, Kris Dunn, Denzel Valentine, Zach Collins, Jeff Green, Luke Kornet, Semi Ojeleye, Bruce Brown Jr., Cameron Payne, Duncan Robinson, Tacko Fall, Tremont Waters

* Players in bold are Celtics' free agents.

Current under contract roster 2021-22 season: Jayson Tatum, Al Horford, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart (1 year 13.8 m), Tristan Thompson (1 year 9.7 m), Romeo Langford, Robert Williams III (1 year 3.6 m), Aaron Nesmith, Grant Williams, Jabari Parker (1 year 2.2 m), Payton Prichard, Carson Edwards, Moses Brown

Bigs: Horford, Thompson, Williams III, Williams, Brown

Wings: Tatum, Brown, Nesmith, Parker,

Guards: Smart, Langford, Prichard, Edwards

Potential trade targets aside, I'd go after free-agents Derrick Rose and Bobby Porter with my Trade Exception (S&T or use Thompson if they're interested) and MLE. But we have to move Thompson more than anything, and cut some of the "waste" (Edwards, GWilliams,  Yabusele [brainfart]... these 3 2 in particular). And resign Fournier and keep Jabari. That'd be my most straightforward plan assuming all can fit under the hard cap.

I left off Derrick Rose because of his close relationship with Thibs, I couldn't see him leaving the Knicks for anyone other then perhaps the Bulls. If you are referring to Bobby Portis, he isn't a free agent and I can't see the Bucks letting him go for anything less then an overpay, which isn't constructive for the Celtics.

As some haver mentioned in other threads, I wouldn't mind T.J. McConnell. He's a fiesty defender (had 11 steals in a game this past season) and can really pass the ball. Celtics could really use what he brings to the table.

I had him in the list originally but when I realised we already have Prichard, Edwards and with Waters possibly returning, I took McConnell out.

Bobby is a free-agent, he has a player option that he has no reason in accepting. As for Rose, regardless of relationship, if you have interest you make an offer. Celtics have better chances in contending than the Knicks.

LOL, completely forgot about it. Kept seeing him on the cap, and thought he was down in D-League or something. Now it all makes sense.

I'm not sure I've ever classified solid defence and good shooting as redundant skills :P

Yes, if it’s going to cost 20 + million and we don’t have a starting caliber point guard on our roster.

Porter Jr. would also block the development of Nesmith.
