Wouldn't that be sweet to steal a good player from the Nets.  28 years young,  coming off knee surgery.  Over 20 ppg and 7 apg in his last year healthy.

Best of all he's 6'5". How much money can we come up with if we dump Thompson and or Smart.

Dinwiddie would be a great fit. We need another creator (off the dribble) on offense next to Jaylen and Tatum.

Doesn't he just drive up 95?

Didn’t he recruit Kyrie to nets? What happened? Does he still want to be a corporation? Or have his contract paid in Bitcoin? Nice player, but please vet this one.

Will somebody change the title please? It's a little misleading.

Sign and trade?   Explain to me what this triggers (implications) for hard cap.  I assume means no MLE.

How much over MLE would SD be looking for coming off knee surgery?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
He declined $12.3M, so it stands to reason that he hopes to make more than that in FA. Sure, it would be nice to sign him to the MLE, but that’s not likely…and neither is a s&t

Its going to be interesting to see what he gets.  Only 27 but he's coming off an ACL injury.  I'd guess he's looking for 4yr/80M but 4yr/60M may be more likely.

I know he's a big guard, but didn't we just trade Kemba in part because he was inefficient and injury prone? So instead you guys are going after a more inefficient scorer who's coming off an ACL surgery? He's Marcus Smart-level of inefficient, and careful that at times even worse and a poorer 3-point shooter as it is.

I thought Dinwiddie was around league average in scoring efficiency. League average efficiency + ball-handling + passing ability is a pretty solid offensive package.

5 years in Brooklyn. 272 games played. 55.2% TS%.

His shooting numbers (FG% and 3PT%) are not pretty. His TS% is better because he takes a high volume of threes (43.6% of his shots) and gets to the FT line a lot (.411 ratio of FTs to FGA).

I had not realized Dinwiddie was regularly injured over the years. That is disappointing.

I view him as more of a shot taker than a great creator. Someone who has value on teams with limited / less offensive creators (because they need someone who can eat possessions at solid efficiency) rather than someone who plays his elevates and enables top offensive players (because he lacks high end efficiency).

I do like this type of a player as a 3rd option behind Jaylen and Tatum. He would be a stop-gap option while Boston looks for a real 3rd star.

I do think the offense needs a guard with some offensive creation. Somebody who can create off the dribble and make some things happen. So we are not totally reliant on Jaylen and Tatum for almost every play. It doesn't need to be someone as high usage as Dinwiddie but we need someone who can step up a bit into that role.

Well, I don't know about league average... but yeah the TS% is higher because he went to the line plenty more than anything a couple of years there in Brooklyn (or in general vs other attempts).. But looking at his shooting in particular by itself, he's Marcus Smart level eFG%, FG%, 3pt% and lower at times. I don't see a pattern of improvement to his game, just some seasons better than others... as far as shooting/scoring efficiency goes.

I'm with you having another player, hopefully a PG, that can create would be great, but I don't think poor shooting surrounding Brown and Tatum is the way to go... more than we already have with some.

But yeah, he has history with ACL injuries as it is, and just coming off one it's not something this team should be looking for. I think someone is going to offer him a bad contract, hopefully it's not us.

Is there a reason he’d leave Utah?
