The Celtics are trading Kemba Walker, the No. 16 overall pick in the 2021 draft and a 2025 second-round draft pick to Oklahoma City for Al Horford, Moses Brown and a 2023 second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.

Agreed! How can any fans not love this trade. Last years team was completely broken and major changes are needed. Kemba, who was only available about 50% of the time was due 73 million over 2 years so you must give up a first to get rid of that, no questions asked. To get a player like Al, who can immediately contribute, (and who is only partially guaranteed next year) is well worth it. Al is the opposite of a ball stopper and was called "the glue" last time he was here. Defense also definitely improves. Adding Moses Brown, a 21 year old with great upside, is just icing on the cake. The trade grade is an A! Nice job Brad!!!

When you bring on a 35-year old player you need to temper expectations about what he can contribute. Maybe he’ll be a useful player, maybe not.

We’ve all seen what 36-year old Chris Paul has done for Phoenix. Look at what a 36-year old LeBron still does for the Lakers.

If a guy takes care of himself, he can be a high-caliber NBA player into his late 30s nowadays.

WOAHHHH!!!

I didn’t see the Kemba trade happening this soon! I guess a lotta us on here weren’t crazy after all lollllll

Congrats to the posters who mentioned Horford before as a trade target. I think that was Roy H for sure. I can’t remember other posters as of the moment

Not to brag, but I think I was the first to obsess over dumping Kemba for Big Al, dating back to almost a year ago.

Have a TP!

Dont think there could have been any other way

Salary for salary

Good on Presti and Stevens to hammer a deal out

Presity loves his picks

Celts needed to restore order/cap

While I don’t think Horford is on that level, I don’t think he’s finished.

Look at Blake Griffin. Everyone wrote him off but the guy is dunking, diving for loose balls and being a productive role player. Not an all star. A role player (and Horford in his old wizened age will probably still be a better defensive player than Blake was in his prime).

Smart and TT to Toronto for S&T Kyle Lowry. 2 years $25 Million

Is there a world where Steven’s can pull this off?

A sign and trade would hard cap us, so we couldn't resign Fournier or use the remaining TPE or any of the exceptions we have (MLE, biannual). We need far more to round out the roster, so a sign and trade for any player other than a bonafide star is extremely unlikely.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

Does this say anything about the narrative that Brad loved small ball and shyed away from bigs?  Could that mentallity have been more driven by Ainge if anything?  Brad definitely made mention of being to small in the playoffs.

I didn't think a first rounder would be necessary for a Horford/Walker swap unless we were getting someone like Dort in return.  However, I am glad he acted swiftly on this.  We have been burned by waiting for just the right opportunity to arrise.  Let's see how the proactive approach works.

Inrigued by Brown.  Look forward to future threads tracking his progress against those picked 16+.  Unless we can get a first rounder out of a TT trade, I guess this frees up my plans for draft night.

Danny Ainge was obsessed with guards , seemingly little ones at that ,  smh ,  after KG ,  he would not spend squat on a healthy big center type ,  always the worn out over the hill or college guy with health issues .

I’m soooooo glade Danny is out the freak n door.

I’m good with it.  I miss Horford, and Marcus can run point.

I’m curious about Moses Brown.  He put up some crazy numbers at times.

Agreed. Moses had 24ts, 17 rebs, 7blks in the last game of the regular season vs the Clippers. Last 10 games of the season he averaged 9ppg, 11reb, 1.4blks, 1stl in 25 mins of play. Sounds like a good insurance policy for Timelord.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

It's going to be an awful trade unless Moses Brown becomes the second coming of his namesake (I guess he has the rebounding down already?).

Very surprised by this trade.  We need a big more than we need shoot first PG but I doubt that Al gives us more than Kemba.  I guess if you look at this in terms of replacement value meaning how does Horford compare to the big who isn't going to play and how does Kemba compare to Smart, Pritchard, or who ever ends up replacing him in the line up, maybe Al is a bigger upgrade to our bigs than losing Kemba is a downgrade to our guards.

I do like taking the chance on a young big who has put up 20/20 games in the NBA.  I have no feel for what his ceiling is but that is a good chance to take.  It also does save us some money, both in terms of Horford's contract and that Brown will make less than the 16th pick.  That will likely help us sign Fournier and maybe do some other moves with the TPEs.

So the deal is really Kemba, 16th for Horford, Brown and something.  The problem is we don't know what the "something" is and may never be able to equate it exactly.
