I like Horford. I don't like the trade.

Most deals happen on draft night/at the deadline for a reason. Teams are unwilling to lower their asking price prior to the draft night unless they are desperate to make a trade. It's when they run out of time on draft night that they finally compromise regarding their asking price. To put it another way, trade negotiations are like the game of chicken. Whomever backs down first loses the game. The C's backed down first and they got fleeced. Our rookie GM made a rookie mistake. I miss Danny already.
Welcome Al, but I am with you for most... Not sure that a NY, Pels or Mavs wouldn't crack and give something better for Walker. But not agree for the Ainge missing on this. Our 16* pick lost to get rid of Walker is another illustration of his bad choices lately.
Now we have also to find a way to get rid of Thompson (as Horford and Brown are good 2 and 3 options at C) and we are in a need mindset in the market

Where's the better deal? I don't see it. Al has $27million owed this year, and $26.5 Million which is only 50% guaranteed next season. He's going to contribute. People want to take the one Philly season and pronounce Al washed. To get Moses Brown too is just a cherry on top.
We're about 1.5 month away from draft night. Anything can happen till then. What if the Clips lose to the Jazz and they become desperate (especially since Kawhi has a player option)? What if the Sixers lose to the Hawks and they decide to shake things up? What if the Knicks strike out in free agency and they get interested in Kemba?

Imo, this is an overpay on our part. In a vacuum, Kemba is the best player in the deal. Sure, he's ovepaid, but the same goes for Horford. Really don't think we should have included #16. First round picks are valuable assets.

Agreed the 16th pick is a bad inclusion. Hopefully this is a framework Danny had laid out and not something Brad put together from scratch or else he needs to go.

The Celtics are trading Kemba Walker, the No. 16 overall pick in the 2021 draft and a 2025 second-round draft pick to Oklahoma City for Al Horford, Moses Brown and a 2023 second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.

Agreed! How can any fans not love this trade. Last years team was completely broken and major changes are needed. Kemba, who was only available about 50% of the time was due 73 million over 2 years so you must give up a first to get rid of that, no questions asked. To get a player like Al, who can immediately contribute, (and who is only partially guaranteed next year) is well worth it. Al is the opposite of a ball stopper and was called "the glue" last time he was here. Defense also definitely improves. Adding Moses Brown, a 21 year old with great upside, is just icing on the cake. The trade grade is an A! Nice job Brad!!!

Don't like the deal.  Trading 16 hurts.  This is not a top team in the East.  I'm normally a lot more positive but I just don't see how this deal makes us better.  Moses Brown is a long term backup and insurance if Timelord gets hurt.  Not a bad piece but not worth a 1st round pick.  I was really hoping the C's would draft a PG with 16.

More deals to be made.  They can resign Evan now if he wants to be here and probably use one of the lower level exceptions to sign a vet.

No assets to trade for a start like Beal. just a disappointing deal IMO.  If it was a lottery protected pick next year I'd be happier.  This is supposed to be a deep draft.  Hopefully the C's can buy a pick if a guy falls.

I’m also concerned about the pick. Making this move does shed some salary. Maybe they’re planning to resign Fournier.

I am curious about what he really thinks of Grant.

It is hard to say,  I would say he has to notice that he is a smart player, not athletic, lacks length, can't rebound and struggles to stay in front of guys.  But can shoot the three.   Those things are fairly obvious.   Grant slacked a lot this year and had that one good game in the playoffs where he obviously put forth the kind of effort he should have all year.  His advanced metrics were dog doo this year and the eye test was worse.  Did he play him because he liked him or necessity?   I think Grant would be ok if he is moved down the rotation to 10-15th guy, he is not a 6-9 rotation player in terms of skill or talent.

Good trade if your name is Yam Madar, bad trade if you're a C's fan

I think Moses Brown would have been better than anyone we could have picked at 16 folks.

Horford was also our defensive anchor. We never managed to replace him with Theis or TT, and Timelord looks like he may never be able to play starters minutes full time. I expect trading Timelord while he still has value as the next move.

When you bring on a 35-year old player you need to temper expectations about what he can contribute. Maybe he’ll be a useful player, maybe not.

I really like this trade because of Brown. A 21 year old active center that could be a nice duo with R Williams for the future.  We immediately get bigger at the center position, and also the point guard position with Smart sliding there probably.  I think we have been too small recently so I like it.  I’m not worried about scoring punch as long as we re-sign Fournier.  I imagine another shoe has to drop with a trade with possibly Thompson.

I see this as more of a table setting trade. Hard to say if it's good or not depending what happens next.

Of course they are planning to re-sign Fournier. We sacrificed a huge chunk of the TPE for him, plus 4 second-round picks. They better not let him walk for nothing.

Very surprised by the negativity here by some. Not sure what people expected to get rid of Kemba’s contract. You weren’t going to get a star in return.

Thought Brad did a good job of getting pieces that fit on the roster and saving some money as well. Losing the first was tough but it was always going to be the cost of doing business to unload that deal.

Tend to agree. I thought that this year was kind of a write-off already. Might as well start shedding salary now so that we have some money to spend in 2022, which has a huge free agent class.

Memories really are short here, huh? Kemba helped stabilize our locker room last year after a season of turmoil - a season when Al was supposed to be a leader on the team. Is that to say Al is a bad leader? No, but let's not overstate his ability in that area either.

He had a very good year last season.  He should certainly be useful, and the extra $10 million should be useful as well.
