Rasheed Wallace wasn't a big fan of Flip Saunders... 

"We had, rest in peace, Flip (Saunders) as our coach," Wallace recalled. "I was just letting the guys know I wasn't too keen on Flip and his coaching style. Some of the other guys in the locker room, they were cool with it, but I just let them know some of the things that were happening, for me that window was closing."


Wallace and Le Batard both didn't want to necessarily speak ill of the dead — Saunders died in 2015, two months after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma — but Sheed didn't sugarcoat his feelings either.

"And I felt as though we wasted three good years with him being the head coach than it would have been with Larry Brown," Wallace, then age 32, said.

After some additional prodding from Le Batard and co-host, fellow former ESPN personality and former Phoenix Suns scout Amin Elhassan, Wallace provided a little more unfiltered version of his locker room "speech."

"It was a bunch of f-bombs and a bunch of m-f'ers and f-this and f-that, bull(expletive) and all the other cuss words you can think of," Wallace said. "My main emphasis was, I felt as though we were wasting our time, we were wasting these years with him, who, to me, wasn't a good coach.

"To win a championship, it takes more than just one or two All-Stars, you gotta have an All-Star coach. Your coach actually has to know X's and O's on what he's doing, and for me, personally, I just didn't think Flip had that."

Saunders was brought in to replace the fired Brown in the summer of 2005, right after the Pistons made two trips to the Finals. The team seemed to respond well, setting a franchise record for wins the next season.

Is Rondo considering retirement?  Doesn't he have another year on his contract?

I for one would be very interested in hiring him. But I doubt Brad would. If Danny were still the President and Brad no longer coach, it would be such a Danny move to hire Rondo as HCBC.

Even though Brad and Rondo ... it wasnt ideal. Rondo has "grown up".  Brad might think he is just what the doctor ordered for the team

What I worry about is... does he know how to build a team/patience.   He is elite in Xs and Os...but after bad loss ... it could get ugly. Rondo is a fiery guy

not sure why there is all this love for rondo, who has made himself unpopular on a number of teams and management teams.

why bring in someone with no experience in coaching, talent evaluation, drafting, scouting, and more when you a brand new team president, one who is new to the position?

asking both coach and president to learn on the job might be good if you are a lottery team. you would lose anyway, so why not develop from within?

but the celtics need a more stable and experienced coach right now.

He did the opposite for a similar number of teams. Has championship and Boston ties. Has a high basketball IQ. Knows the game and teams inside-out. Has experience leading from the bench.

I remember when Sam Cassell was still playing, they'd do GM poll and one of the questions was, "Which current player will make the best head coach someday" and Cassell's name was always on it.

He won a couple of championships, including 2008 in Boston, which I love. I'd like to see him here.

I'm not sure who they should pick, but I think its important that it is an Ex-player who will command respect of the locker-room. Brad was a good coach when we had young guys who needed developing, but once they reach their all-star level sometimes they need a different type of coach.

for whatever reason, brad lost the locker-room and maybe its because he never played in the NBA so tatum/brown etc. could say "i know better hes never played the game" now if you get a guy who is an ex-all-star here who has won telling them they are wrong then it might be different.

the funny thing is, Doc Rivers would be perfect for this team at this juncture if he was just fired a year later. he wasnt the best X's and O's coach but he knew how to manage personalities and command the locker room.

He’s been on 8 teams the last 7 seasons.  Given that kind of… mobility, he can’t have made himself that popular anywhere, as it isn’t as if he signed exorbitant contracts  that says he became unaffordable to a team that liked him.

He’s a smart player, who at least at times might be helpful with younger players, but if he wants to become a head coach he’s going to need to put in the work as an assistant coach for a few years.  There are plenty of ex-players who were known as smart, hardworking, and with a high IQ who are available in the assistant pool or the college ranks that should be considered before Rondo gets a sniff, if you are insistent we need a former player.

And I say this while happening to wear a Rondo T-shirt.

We don't have 12 players better than Rondo, he would legit be a top 6-10 player for us.  I think he would be the backup PG, he is still arguable better than PPritch especially if you take into account him running the offense and his  5.8 APG.
