  • GOT IT!!!
Only person on that list I could truly get behind is Billups. He intrigues me when it comes to the J’s. He can be tough when needed but a mentor as well. Players will respond to a former player with his accolades I would think.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I think a former player (with championship pedigree) would be the best for imo. Sam Cassell and Chauncey Billups would be my top choices. Both were all star type players who have one championship experience and were considered leader types when they were playing.

If he wasn’t already under contract, Doc Rivers would literally be the best option.

would love Coach K but he is 74, so unlikely

Van Gundy can coach - but I see them going with an ex-player - potentially more attractive for attracting free agents given all the recent swirl - Cassel, Howard, etc. Scares me a little with such a young team,  but maybe it's what we need.

The most interesting story would be Pitino but that's not happening.....Larry - any interest??

Juwon Howard..gets instant plug from his buddy Jalen Rose on ESPN ...this will help with free agents.

Howard has proven himself at the college level. I'd rather take a shot with him as someone like Billups, who has almost no experience.

Saw someone throw out Coach K above. He's 74 and reportedly retiring. Hard to think he could be the answer.

My guess is that CBS will select a coach who either was

(1) highly talented NCAA coach
(2) vet NBA coach who CBS coached against and was impressed by
(3) an underling. One of CBS' assistants.

I do not see CBS selecting a first time NBA coach / former player type candidate like Sam Cassell. I don't think CBS will take that risk. He will look for someone with more head coaching experience or someone he knows well and trusts (underling).

I'm surprised  Adrian Griffin hasn't been mentioned yet as a coaching candidate.

100% they should hire Becky Hammon

If we're going to be a mess let's at least have something to feel good about.

I could see her really dig into the team....Spurs style

I welcome ball and player movement style of basketball

Me too. Don't like all that iso stuff.
Never understood why Stevens kept playing such a static offensive system.

The meltdowns (me included) if we hired JVG or Pitino would be immense

Bill Simmons and those other guys like Billups

at first I thought he was too soft spoken to be able to lead this team

but listening to him more and more

I think he would be a good fit for the Celts

He kind of throws Carmelo Anthony under the bus....regarding needing to score 30 vs sacrificing some points for the benefit of the team

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DenULqfNVWE

He can help bend Brown/Tatum mindset, to be more team players on the court

I'm on team hire Billups. He has won a ring as a player.

Does he have any coaching experience? I'd be surprised if we went with a complete rookie

He is currently an assistant coach with the Clippers
