This must have been in play since Brad’s extension. I’m certain he’s proven to have good input when it has come to trade and draft decisions, whatever it may have been and whether or not it was heeded. This wasn’t some blind faith move. Wyc is not an idiot.

Is Kara Lawson a possibility?  Can she be pried away from Duke?  Would it work?

I like Brad, but he doesn’t seem like the GM type.  He’s too polite.  This is all so weird.  Yuck.

Stevens has been given Ainge’s title of Team President/Head of Basketball Operations.  While there may be a change or two in the rest of the front office, there’s no opening for someone like Ujiri, who would want Stevens’ new role.

I wouldn't be surprised if Zarren gets the GM title and report to Stevens. Stevens is smart and diligent but he will need some help with the cap.

I expect that Austin Ainge is polishing his CV as I type this.

Ho gosh what a day! I wasn't touched by the elimination, but this news come quick. It is funny that the speach was always "it is a story of an unhealthy team" all year and now we see they were biggest issues inside the team (like CBS not having the flame or the feeling he could fluctuate the dynamic, could impact a lot in the results).

If it is true thanks for everything Danny Ainge and coach Sevens. It was good to have a GM who took such iconoclast decisions, who took some great controversal decision but maybe he lost a little of his flair recently. Maybe it is karma, but things turned bad with the hard story of IT and the Kyrie/Hayward signing. Maybe he wasn't the men to assemblate 2 contenders core, but at least he will leave us (if it is true) with very good material for the next GM. It worked with Philly, hope it will work for us.

But the first name we listen are not sexy at all. Puting Brad on BB operation why not if he is tired of coaching. But I really hope for a better name... We don't know, maybe Spoelstra feel tired about Heat also ? I know he is signed for 3 next years, but what if we offer our first round to pick him ?Our future is much more sunny than the Heat and I think he woul be the perfect coach for us. Kidd, Atkinson or Pierce no thanks... One year ago the Doc was on the market and could also have been a good choice.

I wonder if Brad moving up to a FO role is also a sign that the organization was souring on him as a HC. Maybe they think he can help in the front office though. Also, didn't Brad turn down a big deal to go to Indiana? Could this have been why?  :o

There's definitely a lot of factors and scenarios in play here, but this is a big bombshell early in the morning, especially just 12 hours after being eliminated.

I think that Stevens soured on being a coach, which is probably one reason he didn’t take the Indiana position.  Clearly the Celtics haven’t soured on Stevens in anyway, as they wouldn’t give him new authority if they had.
Who wouldn't be soured on trying to motivate these guys to play every night and not getting a response?  He's had a great run of getting his teams to do just that, but maybe his lack of success this season had something to do with being burned out?

He's had a long run as coach and I think a successful one.  Only one of his teams had a chance at winning the whole thing (the bubble team) and even that was a bit of a long shot since they'd have had to get through LeBron and Davis.  Many of his teams overachieved.  So it's probably time to move on (or up).

I don't.  He probably stays with the team ... handling the draft workouts etc

The Celtics don't fire anybody

Coach will be a diversity candidate ...Cs break the barrier again and hire Becky Hammon, I bet she gets a look, but I think the HC will be African American ...Kyrie made sure of that. Patrick Ewing is from Cambridge? I want Juwon Howard.

Maybe a change of attitude in the front office is needed.  Instead of Danny winning every trade, maybe Brad will break even in some.

This explains why Stevens didn't take the Indiana college job.
