I think if this team simply signed Fournier, filled in around Tatum, Brown, Walker, Smart, Thompson, Williams, Langford, Nesmith, Parker, Pritchard, that the team would be better than most seem to think.  I don't believe they win a championship right away but I don't feel that is a reason to do anything drastic.

If they can add a decent big to the team, even better.  No need to panic here.  Look at the Lakers, champs last season and now a few injuries (fewer than we had) and they are struggling to get out of the first round.

We could be the next Phoenix Suns.  Any of the Bucks, Sixers, Nets could be the Lakers.

Got to fully agree here. We have limited options. Someone can just imagine some team might just hand us a deal we could make that would help, but I don't see it.

I would flesh this comment out though. We need to trade Smart for a better pick and get a good complimentary power forward Franz Wagner or Scotty Barnes. Maybe Kai Jones. We should not take salary back for Smart.

We just do that and we get better. If we have to keep Walker, Fournier is a much better pairing than Smart. The Walker Smarty backcourt was a problem.

If there’s a Smart trade for a true playmaking PG of Smart’s talent caliber or equivalent PF, I say do it. But if that’s not there then run it back with improvement / development at the margins.

Bottom end of the bench needs to go.

Grant Williams: $2,617,800  Trade for a second rounder if you can but I doubt it
Carsen Edwards: $1,782,621  Cut him if you can or add him to a piece of the pie
Tacko
Waters
Kornett.

I think getting rid of Kemba is a priority but it will be nigh impossible to do.  I would talk to him about medical retirement, he still gets paid, but his contract does not count against the cap.  He's done his goose is cooked the knee is chronic and small guards stink when their speed goes, this is even affecting his shot.   He has had a good run.

I bet he rediscovers himself next year.

Would love to try and flip our 1st + Hayward TPE for someone like Larry Nance. Move TT + two 2nd round picks for Mason Plumlee of Detroit. Would also look to move Smart - if there was a way to move him for a TPE then use that TPE + whatever to get Terrence Ross I’d be ecstatic. Kemba would be very difficult to move, so may be stuck with him.

Re-sign Fournier, renounce Tacko, keep Parker, maybe re-sign Kornet and Tremont on minimum deals. Would be tempted to bring Yam over if we can’t keep him overseas.

Roster is:
Kemba - Pritchard - Yam / Tremont
Fournier - Ross - Nesmith
Brown - Langford - Nesmith
Tatum - Nance - Parker
Plumlee - Williams - Kornet / Grant
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

The more I think about it, the more I want the Celtics to keep their options open long term. No extensions, no free agent contracts longer than one season.

I would offer Fournier a two year max contract, with the second year non-guaranteed.  It might tempt him to stay, rather than seeking a longer term deal elsewhere.

My goal would be to be a giant player in either the 2023 or 2024 free agent classes, where we could hopefully add some real star talent to the Jays.

I would look to move Walker without giving up a first (as well as Thompson)

Make Smart the starting PG in charge of getting Tatum, Brown and Fournier (resign if no other team tries to go over the top)

Add a PF that is that 5th through 7th man level.   Add a 2nd Center that can either stretch the floor or pass.  (keep Grant Williams as the Third small ball C)

The best trade I can come up with sends Walker to the Knick, Thompson (and the 1st round pick the Knicks have from Dallas) to the Thunder and Horford to the Celtics.  They are is lots of wiggle room in there for other contracts to move and the Celtics likely could add 2nd round picks.

If we could move Kemba and bring Horford on that would be a huge move, IMO. Horford proved he can still ball and now he’ll be well-rested.

If Smart is the starting PG, please PLEASE someone (cough Brad) tell him he is option no. 5 (that’s 5!!!!) on offense, yes behind Rob Williams or Horford even if he’s on that roster. And that he will have a career season if he is a playmaker, defender, and OCCASIONAL slasher/spot up shooter. Talking like 10 shots a game.

Based on what Woj just tweeted, they may go with a totally new approach.

This is my initial wish list.
1.   Replace Danny and bring in a new GM/President of basketball operations that’s making the player decisions.
2.   Offer Kevin Garnett the ability to buy into ownership.
3.   Trade Kemba.
4.   Either trade Smart, or replace him in the starting lineup. His ideal role is coming off the bench.
5.   Add another ex-player to the coaching staff.
