Not all ex players can be coaches. I think KG and Pierce would be terrible.

You know what I think would be cool? Someone internal, like what the Heat did with Spoelstra. Spoelstra had been a video coordinator and worked with the Heat for a number of years before Riley gave him the keys to the team with Lebron and Wade. I don’t know the C’s organization or if there’s some succession planning like that going on, but I like the thought of it.

Would like to see some ideas as to who you think would be a good coach to hire in the case Brad Stevens is no longer the coach.

I'm not stating that Stevens should be fired or he should leave but he is walking on thin ice at the moment

Candidates I like

- John Stockton. HOF that would warrant respect.  I heard good things about his coaching approach.  Brogdon and Kidd had lots of positive things to say when he came to help out in camp several years ago.   The issue is no real coaching experience just like Steve Nash.   On the flip side Nash has done  a tremendous job without KD.  Even got through Irving.

- Paul Pierce with Perkins and Scal as assistants.   Pierce was a tactician when he was a player.  He and Scal would worry about Xs and Os, preparation and game plan.  Perkins take on the Udonis Haslem role.

- Mark Jackson.  It will be a sight to see Scal have pregame talks with Jackson like he has with Brad lol.   But tbh I think it could be time he gets a 2nd chance.  Its been ages since the "drama" happened.  He was a fantastic player and a pretty good coach minus the drama with Scal and Erman.

- Tony Bennett and Jay Wright are two highly rated college coaches.  Have won championships. But would the players on the team respect them/any different than how it is with Stevens?

Who is your candidate?

I don’t think Jackson could ever coach a team but cool list. As much as people will laugh at done Pierce/ Scal/ Perk thing if one of them ( would be Scal I’d guess ) had the x and o knowledge I’d be all about this. I dint think Brad is respected and I think we’ve wasted a lot of time this year.

Mark Jackson coached the Warriors before Kerr took over. They won a pretty respectable amount of games that year, iirc.

I'd like to see someone more old school and not afraid to rip the players a new one when they do stupid things. There just isn't much accountability in the NBA anymore. I doubt we would win a championship with Stan Van Gundy, but I bet Tatum would be a better leader after having played under him for a couple years.

KG would be a bad coach. Too intense. Would make players cry

Pierce is more mild mannered. Though I could see him blow a fuse here and there.

Scal is one smart dude. Planning Xs and Os. In game adjustments

Perk would be intense to fire up without losing it.

Pop.

or Eric Spoelstra (if he's ever available). Guy is a proven winner and knows how to manage big egos. I disliked him during the LeBron days esp how he's beaten the Celtics twice, but liked him post-LeBron.

I'd want a Brad Stevens type. I think the team would respond well to that.

Worth a Tommy Point.

Hopefully he’d be as good a coach as Brad, too.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

Kenny Atkinson seems like he might be a good place to start the interview process.

Lebron

That would be the day lol

Yeah, he could teach the Jays how to quit, and stack a team, brilliant.

I was thinking that if the Mavs had a bad season, Rick Carlisle might become available. I think he's a great, underrated coach and he has ties to the C's. I'd love to see him. But the Mavs turned things around so he's probably not going anywhere.

Someone else said Fizdale, and I like that idea.
