The thing about Romeo

In high school and college he was the best guy on the court.
His body language last night showed me that, despite all the setbacks, he still has that confidence.

Hope he can work his way up to 20 mpg before the playoffs. Could be a valuable contributor

He played really well and if his shot is real, he’ll be an X factor for this team. It’s a big boon when your best players can rest on defense, even if they are elite two way players

It was definitely exciting to see Romeo on the court and contributing.  The most surprising thing to see was him in the game in the 1st qtr.  Either Brad feels this kid can contribute or he was just finding him a spot to throw him to the wolves.  Semi got hurt at the wrong time.  Romeo will probably take his minutes immediately.

Hopefully this offseason someone can teach Nesmith how to shoot.  The kid's energy and effort are awesome.  He's all over the court.  He just needs to be able to score and work on his handle.

It is interesting to compare Nesmith and Langford.  They are the same age (Langford 9 days younger).  Langford had 1 college season (32 games) plus some G-League (7 games), Nesmith has about 1.5 college seasons (32 & 14 games) but no G-League.  With the 12 min last night, Langford now has 382 career regular season NBA minutes (plus 46 playoff minutes).  Nesmith has 395 minutes.

It is remarkable how similar it is in terms of playing time experience.  Based on what I have seen, I would say that Langford is ahead of Nesmith at this moment but I still like both prospects.  To me, Langford is much more likely to give us something this season/playoffs but I think Nesmith will really benefit from a summer league and a real preseason and will likely be right there with Langford moving forward.

Langford has more confidence/swagger right now, just seems more comfortable out there, but Nesmith has a little more size and to me, a little more hops.  Langford seems to understand the game better at this point but that may be because he has had more time to just watch.  I like them individually and I think they can play well together; 6'-4" Langford as the SG and 6'-6" Nesmith as the SF as their natural positions but both have enough versatility to mix and match.

Great observations. I am happy with our young players. I have seen many redrafts and Smart still would be our pick but TimeLord going 12-15. And both these guys show great flashes. Romeo was a top 5 recruit. 64th for Nesmith but he could shoot.

Romeo looks like a prototypical attacking 2-guard, which isn't a player we currently have (Jaylen is more in the mold of 3 & D). I see some Dwyane Wade or Donovan Mitchell in his game. I can't wait to see Romeo develop.

Timelord and Romeo HAVE to stay healthy the rest of the way. Weird as it sounds, they could be our difference makers in the postseason. To be clear, that's not to say either guy will be our best players or that I'm expecting them to play like superstars. But what we'll need is adequate support around Jaylen/Brown/Fournier/Kemba. Timelord's been giving it to us, and it'd be huge if Romeo could give us some of that too off the bench.

A rotation of Kemba/Jaylen/Fournier/Tatum/Timelord with Smart/Thompson/Romeo/Pritchard/Nesmith off the bench can be lethal. Our bench would be pretty good too.

But again, it all comes down to health (including COVID-related health)

How can anyone think Nesmith is lethal at anything at this point?  He tries hard and is more athletics but for whatever reason, the shot that he was drafted for ain't there.  I want him to succeed but I think I am just being realistic.

I think he has struggled with the NBA 3 point line vs college line. Not having a summer league or training camp has hurt his transition.  He is an extremely hard worker.   There is a great interview between Mike Schmidt (ESPN) and him on how he worked between his freshman and sophomore year to become an elite shooter.   This year has been pretty brutal season for him shooting wise.

Nesmith’s shot is different this year than in college. There’s a hitch in it. It’s weird that the Nesmith fans don’t acknowledge that...

I’m not writing Nesmith off by any means. But he’s not going to contribute this year besides during blowout minutes. When Semi comes back Nesmith is 11 or 12 on the depth chart.

Romeo showed more in 12 minutes than Nesmith has all season...

Nesmith won't be in the playoff rotation. Stevens has hinted lately what his rotation will be. It's

Kemba/Smart/Brown/Tatum/,Timelord with Fournier/Thompson/Pritchard/Grant or Semi.

Then, maybe Romeo becomes the 10th guy, maybe. If the top 9 are playing well in a close game, it's possible Romeo doesn't play.

It's always good to see someone make an actual prediction. But I'd take that bet any day. They simply don't play the same role.

I agree, he's showing energy and effort. I would add that he uses his length. Boston needs to cause turnovers

He needs reps and court time for his shooting, that's all. His form is excellent.

As for his handles - well, everyone needs work, but the most important things for him right now are sidesteps to both sides and one or two dribbles into open midrange areas and straight-line drives to attack closeouts. I'd say he's getting there, especially with the sidesteps to either side; on the other hand getting to the rim is just another story at this point. We've seen him challenge paint-protectors and get off a jumper over them with a really high arc, so there are signs that he's developing a paint repertoire.

He's coming up behind scorers and shot-creators so he needs to complement them.

This guy is going to be good.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

I know you probably didn't mean it in a bad way, but calling Jaylen a 3&D player is greatly diminishing what he does on the court. He is a two-way star. I should note that I love Romeo and think he has a lot of potential to now and in the future, but Jaylen is also light years ahead of him as an attacking guard - even if that isn't his greatest strength. That's just how good Jaylen is.
